Despite being generated by AI, a photo of Katy Perry attending the Met Gala has caused a stir online, with even her own mother being unable to distinguish it from a real photo.
Despite the bold outfits and standout looks at the 2024 Met Gala, there has been notable absence from well-known stars like Katy Perry and Rhianna. Despite AI photos of Perry circulating online, they have chosen not to attend, causing a stir in the media.
As a result, Perry posted a new update on Instagram to clarify any uncertainty surrounding her attendance at the renowned fashion event.
In addition to captioning the post with the words, “couldn’t attend the MET due to work,”the singer and pop icon also posted a private message exchange between her and her mother, which revealed that her family had also been fooled by these AI-generated photos.
In the screenshot of their conversation, Katy Perry’s mother texted her daughter, “I didn’t know you attended the Met.”She then went on to comment, “You look like a Rose Parade, you are your own float lol.”
After Perry’s mother shared a photo that she believed to be a genuine image of her daughter, Katy swiftly responded to inform her mother that it was in fact not a real photo.
“Mom, watch out! The AI fooled you as well!”
The deep fake of Katy Perry, which has become a viral sensation, has already received more than 10 million views on X (formerly known as Twitter) and has garnered over 300,000 likes. However, the post has since been identified as a “fake”image after gaining widespread attention online.

Hence, it can be concluded that not only Katy’s mother, but others also fell for the AI-generated content.
Other celebrities, including Rhianna and Zendaya, have also been targeted by AI deep fakes and superimposed into photos from the 2024 Met Gala. Unlike Perry and Rhianna, Zendaya was actually in attendance at this year’s event.
