Kevin Costner reveals why he’s “disappointed” with makers of Yellowstone

Kevin Costner played the role of the family patriarch for five seasons in Yellowstone. However, he expressed disappointment in the creators for not standing up for him against the rumors surrounding his departure from the show.

After his departure from the popular series, Kevin Costner revealed in an interview with People that lack of support and production problems were the main reasons for his decision.

“According to Costner, he read all the stories and was disappointed that none of his colleagues stood up to defend his actions. He expressed his frustration, saying he had hoped someone would acknowledge his efforts instead of focusing on what he had not done.”

Initially, Taylor Sheridan presented Yellowstone to Costner as a single season, with a format that aligned with the actor’s preferences for longer film-like projects. However, the studios expressed a desire for additional content, and Sheridan willingly accommodated their request, confident in his writing skills to further develop the storyline.

Despite being a fan of Sheridan’s work, Costner ultimately stayed for the entirety of Yellowstone’s five seasons.

In 2022, speculation began to spread about why the actor chose to depart from the popular show and his role as John Dutton III. Despite his fondness for Yellowstone, the reason was straightforward: “The scripts were lacking.”

Despite rumors of an “ego”issue between Sheridan and Costner, scheduling conflicts, and Costner’s decision to work on Horizon: An American Saga instead of Yellowstone, the actor claims that he couldn’t continue to wait in uncertainty for a new season.

The actor acknowledged that there was a 14-month period where the show had stopped for him. He admitted that he could have utilized that time for other projects, but he had not expected the hold-up to occur.

Despite leaving the show, Costner remains a strong supporter of Yellowstone and its authentic portrayal of contemporary ranch life. He would consider coming back if the script and circumstances were suitable to “conclude the saga of this present-day family.”

Ultimately, I had done all that I could for it and could not do any more in the end.

Yellowstone can be streamed on both Paramount and Peacock. Viewers can catch up on why the 1883 Dutton family is favored by fans, the returning cast for the spinoff without Costner, and other TV shows available for streaming this month.
