Despite not returning for Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2, Kevin Costner remains silent on the reported feud with Taylor Sheridan.
The anticipated release date for Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 is November 10, 2024, however, there will be a notable absence from the Dutton family. While it has not been officially announced, Kevin Costner’s departure from the show is inevitable.
Instead of appearing at the Dutton Ranch, Costner has been busy promoting his own Western project Horizon: An American Saga on the press circuit.
During an interview with Gayle King, Costner was questioned about his rumored feud with Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan. He promptly and awkwardly dismissed the topic.
“From the very beginning, I was a fan of the show. It was just Taylor and me. The truth remains unchanged: our love for the show was incredibly powerful. If given the opportunity to return, I wouldn’t hesitate for a moment. I would find a way to make it work and eagerly take on the role.”
King responded, “The portrayal of you may not be entirely favorable. Your requests for a specific schedule, shooting time, and salary could be seen as demanding. If it’s not too difficult, why can’t the two of you come to a compromise? It would be highly anticipated by the public.”
Costner’s reply was, “Gayle, this isn’t therapy. We won’t be discussing this on the show, to be completely honest.”
Despite lacking official confirmation, it is believed that Costner’s issues with Sheridan stem from conflicting schedules, divergent creative visions, and Costner accepting a reduced salary.
On June 20, Costner announced on social media through a video statement that he will not be appearing in any upcoming episodes of Yellowstone.
As he shared his thoughts, he fondly mentioned Yellowstone, the series that both of us adore. However, he suddenly came to the realization that he won’t be able to watch Season 5 or any future seasons.
“I wanted to express that I truly enjoyed our time together and I am aware that you did as well. However, I regret to inform you that I will not be able to continue our time together. I value the special bond we have formed and I look forward to seeing you at the movies.”
Sheridan has remained silent on the recent news regarding Yellowstone and Kevin Costner, however, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in June 2023, he stated: “My opinion of Kevin as an actor has not changed.”
The symbolism and strength behind his creation of John Dutton has always impressed me, and I have never encountered a problem with Kevin that we couldn’t resolve through a simple phone call.
However, as soon as lawyers become involved, the dynamic changes and open communication between people is hindered. The desire to protect oneself often leads to the spreading of false information and the placing of blame on others, influenced by the perception of the media or public.
“Despite facing a lot of criticism, he has handled it gracefully and I don’t believe anyone deserves it. It is evident that his movie holds great importance to him and he is determined to redirect his efforts towards it. I sincerely hope that his dedication pays off and that the movie turns out to be a successful one.”
