Tari Eason received backlash from Golden State Warriors fans and star player Klay Thompson for his taunting of the team. This ultimately proved costly as the Warriors were able to defeat Eason’s Houston Rockets and end their season on Thursday.
Eason, who is 22 years old, serves as a backup forward for the Rockets. He has contributed to Houston’s success with 12 wins in 22 games, averaging 9.8 points and seven rebounds per game.
Despite not being present during last night’s game against the Warriors, the young wing managed to grab everyone’s attention by wearing a T-shirt that boldly stated, “Warriors, come out to play.”
The well-known saying originates from the film “The Warriors”released in 1979, which depicts battles over territory among competing street gangs in New York City.
The Warriors took the court and delivered an impressive performance, defeating the Rockets 133-110. Klay Thompson matched Steph Curry’s game-high 29 points, sinking seven three-pointers. The “Splash Bros”effectively ended the Rockets’ (38-38) chances of making it to the NBA postseason.
Following the game, Thompson was among the many who criticized Eason for taunting without his team having the ability to support it.
“That’s quite pathetic, especially if you’re not even participating. It’s acceptable if you’re actively playing and backing it up with your performance, but if you’re just sitting on the sidelines and trying to provoke others, what’s the point? When we engage in banter, at least we’re actively competing,”Thompson countered.
During the game, Curry also imitated the bottle-rattling gesture from the iconic scene in the movie to mock the LSU player on the bench.

Eason was the target of mockery from fans. According to an X user on Twitter (https://twitter.com/rrc709/status/1776249779174982037?t=gMoMvcdYChWO_BAVgiWhyw&s=19), he is not considered to be a significant player for the Rockets. Even Sonya Curry, mother of Curry, had something to say about Eason, questioning “Who is he?!!!”in an Instagram comment. In response, Eason’s mother, Teroya, fired back on Twitter (https://twitter.com/teroyaeason/status/1776234551078961359?t=FeuygL-UMPLB87pQZ6Zdsw&
In addition to eliminating Houston from the playoffs, Golden State secured the tenth and last play-in spot in the Western Conference.
