On June 24th at 10:31 a.m., a major fire erupted at the third building of the Aricell plant located in the Jeongok Industrial Complex in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, Korea, resulting in significant harm to individuals and assets.

The police have confirmed that the fire killed 22 people until 6:30 p.m. on the same day. In addition, 2 people sustained serious injuries and 6 others had minor injuries. The authorities are currently searching for more missing workers.
Specifically, out of the deceased, 20 were foreigners, consisting of 18 Chinese individuals, 1 from Laos, and 1 whose nationality has not been confirmed. As per reports, a number of the deceased suffered severe burns, requiring DNA tests by the police for identification.
Concerns were raised about the potential spread of damage as a fire erupted at a lithium battery factory. In response, the fire authority swiftly declared a level 2 notice and mobilized 145 firefighters and 50 vehicles to extinguish the blaze.
As reported by the Korean media, around 35000 lithium pin products housed in this factory simultaneously exploded. While the police have not yet confirmed the cause, it is suspected to have been the fire’s origin. Nonetheless, it is being dubbed as the most severe factory fire in Korea’s history.
