Apple has recently launched the fifth beta version of iOS 18 for developers, which includes significant and beneficial updates.
The most recent beta update allows early access to iOS 18 features before they are officially released to the public. If you are enrolled in Apple’s developer beta program, you can install this update on your iPhone.
With the release of iOS 18 beta 5, Apple is making adjustments to the Home Screen, Lock Screen, and Control Center. Apps such as Photos and Safari will undergo significant changes, while other components will receive minor updates.
Changes to the Photos App
Despite the initial backlash from users when Apple first announced the redesign of the Photos app, the company took into consideration the feedback and implemented some modifications. One of the changes made was the removal of the carousel feature, which allowed users to swipe through different Collections from the main Photos view.
The grid layout in the All Photos section has been expanded, making it easier to locate photo albums when you have a large collection. The app maintains its unified one-screen design, allowing for quick access to the photo grid and all your photos.
Safari Distraction Control feature
Apple is launching Distraction Control on Safari, which is not an ad blocker, but rather a feature that blocks static elements on webpages such as pop-ups requesting email addresses, notification permissions, and other distractions.

Distraction Control can be utilized to temporarily conceal ads, although they will reappear upon refresh. To access this function within Safari webpage settings, simply follow these steps:
- Download and install the fifth developer beta version of the OS on your device
- Access the Page Menu in Safari.
- Choose the option Hide Distracting Items.
- Afterward, you have the option to select particular sections of the page to conceal.
- To view hidden elements, simply select the Show Hidden Items option located in the Safari search field.
Home screen and UI changes
The latest update for iOS 18 beta 5 includes significant modifications to the home screen and user interface. By long-pressing on the Home Screen and choosing Edit, users will now see a Edit Pages option, allowing them to remove entire Home Screen pages or hide them from display.
Apple made adjustments to Dark Mode preferences and refreshed the appearance of the Maps and Find My icons. The Maps icon has been updated to feature a combination of black, white, gray, and blue tones, eliminating the use of other colors. Additionally, the Find My icon now displays more prominent rings in various shades of green.
Additionally, if you utilize the search function to find an app, the app’s icon will now be displayed accurately in Dark Mode. Previously, the search results would always display icons in Light Mode.
