LCS Analyst Shares Key Takeaway from Call of Duty Esports

LCS analyst Emily Rand recently discussed her past interest in Call of Duty and its esports scene, and also shared her thoughts on what League of Legends could potentially take away from the first-person shooter.

League of Legends is considered one of the top esports in the world, on par with Counter-Strike. It boasts a robust infrastructure and massive viewership.

Despite this, it must be acknowledged that the current system is not flawless, and fans have numerous suggestions for potential improvements. These include implementing best-of-three matches instead of best-of-ones and increasing the frequency of international tournaments.

Despite the opinions of LCS analyst Rand, he believes that the league’s excitement can be enhanced not through structural changes or actions taken by Riot, but rather through the efforts of the players and the community.

“While this may not be applicable to all regions, the experience of attending a COD event is undeniably enjoyable,”she told LoL esports content creator David Sjaznuk. “There is often a history of rivalry between players that adds to the excitement and drive to defeat each other.”

While it is true that we do have players who are open and honest in the League community, it is unfortunately a rare occurrence. This could be due to the fact that on social media, people tend to get shouted down, and the expectations from the League fan community may not be the same.

“However, witnessing COD players passionately yelling at each other, engaging with fans in the audience, and receiving enthusiastic responses is an enjoyable experience. It showcases an authentic and dynamic way in which people engage with the sport. In fact, I have never experienced such a traditional sports atmosphere as I have at COD events.”

The video includes quotes that start at the 10:10 minute mark.

Rand clarified that while she does not believe League of Legends should adhere to the conventions of traditional sports, she acknowledged that Call of Duty excels in creating an engaged audience. She also mentioned that CBLoL, the premier Brazilian league, also has a similar atmosphere.

Despite not keeping up with the current Call of Duty League season, she still made her prediction for the winner of the Call of Duty Championship in July. After looking at the rosters, she confidently chose OpTic Texas to take home the trophy, revealing that she has a soft spot for Kenny and wants to support his team.
