Lee Chaeyeon Discusses Health Issues Related to Intense Dancing

On December 19, Lee Chaeyeon took to her Instagram story, sharing a poignant message alongside a concerning image of her spine. The caption read, “Let’s go together… Friend, please take care of me,” suggesting a plea for support during her health struggles.

The image revealed an alarming condition: the disc fluid between her fourth lumbar vertebra (L4) and the first sacral vertebra (S1) appeared significantly diminished, with indications of leaking fluid. This alarming scenario highlights the potential repercussions of her demanding dance routines, which may have contributed to her ongoing discomfort.

Shortly after sharing this concerning information, Lee followed up with a video from her dance practice, captioning it, “It’s amazing it hasn’t burst yet. You worked hard.” This statement indirectly hints at the physical toll her rigorous training and performances are taking on her body.

Lee Chaeyeon rose to fame in 2018 through the Mnet competition series “Produce 48,” where she secured a spot as one of the final eleven members. As a prominent dancer and lead vocalist of the project group IZ*ONE, she gained immense popularity until the group disbanded in April 2021. Demonstrating her resilience, she resumed her journey as a trainee, ultimately debuting as a solo artist on October 12, 2022. Her extraordinary dance skills have earned her the affectionate title of “Summer Queen.”

Following Lee’s health updates, concerned netizens and fans voiced their worries and offered heartfelt advice for her recovery:

  • Oh no… The back is crucial; take care of it for life.
  • If your back gives out, there’s no solution. Please manage it while you can.
  • It’s impossible to not have issues when you use your body like that.
  • Take good care of your health; you can’t get hurt.
  • Is the dark area the ruptured disc where the arrow is pointing?
  • It’s hard to find an idol who dances well and doesn’t have back issues.
  • Rest well, focus on posture, and exercise. Dancers seem to sit cross-legged or slouch a lot in practice rooms, which worries me as a fellow disc sufferer.

In a related context, Chaeyeon has recently drawn attention for her outspoken stance regarding the impeachment of the South Korean president, expressing her view on the responsibilities that come with being a celebrity.
