In past Star Wars movies, the parts of Jedi were frequently portrayed by white actors. As a result, the announcement of casting the first Asian actor for a Jedi role sparked excitement among the global Star Wars fanbase.

On May 29th (local time), director Headland stated in an interview with the foreign newspaper New York Times that she does not consider individuals who make prejudiced, racist, or hateful remarks to be true fans of Star Wars.

Lee Jung-jae commented on the issue, stating, “I believe it is natural for debates to arise considering the large number of passionate fans the ‘Star Wars’ series has.”He continued, “The space setting and numerous alien characters allow for individual interpretations, so everyone is entitled to their own thoughts.”
