Lee Junho Opens Up About Performing with a Broken Spine During 2PM: “It Was a Different Era”

In a recent appearance on the Fairy Jaehyung channel dated October 5, Lee Junho of 2PM opened up about his experiences during his idol career and his latest project, Typhoon Family. During the discussion, he candidly addressed the physical toll of his career, sharing his story of serious injury that marked his journey.

Challenges During His Idol Career

Reflecting on the struggles he faced, Junho recounted, “My shoulder was torn, resulting in eight holes being drilled and stitched. Ligament tears were frequent, but the most severe incident occurred when my fourth vertebra broke. I distinctly heard a crack before collapsing, overwhelmed by a severe headache that left me unable to stand.”

Despite the gravity of his injuries, he felt compelled to perform.“After the diagnosis, which confirmed my spine was fractured, I was told to wear a brace. There was a concert abroad the next day, and although I was apprehensive, I chose to take the stage—my passion for performing drove me, ” he said.

Understanding the Idol’s Mindset

Host Jung Jaehyung was taken aback by Junho’s dedication, questioning how he could possibly perform under such difficult circumstances. Junho responded, “Back then, it was all about keeping promises to our fans. While perspectives have shifted today, I felt it was my responsibility to be there for the fans who had come to see us. Even if my movements were limited, the thought of not performing was not an option; once the music started, I had to be in motion.”

A Painful Yet Rewarding Experience

He elaborated on his physically demanding experience during the performance: “Wearing the brace caused my body to swell, restricting my movements to slight gestures. Nevertheless, the adrenaline helped numb the pain. After every show, I relied on a wheelchair backstage. Despite this struggle, I thought to myself, ‘If I don’t give this my all, what’s left for me?’ The mere thought of disappointing my fans felt unbearable and brought me shame.”
