Legend of Zelda movie director addresses if Link will talk

The possibility of hearing Link’s voice in the upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda movie has been addressed by the film’s director, Wes Ball.

Following the massive success of The Super Mario Bros Movie, Nintendo gave the go-ahead for a film adaptation of Zelda from the director of Planet of the Apes, with the help of Spider-Verse producer Avi Arad.

It is uncertain which game the movie will be based on; it is possible that it will feature an original storyline or incorporate elements from Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, or Breath of the Wild. However, fans of the Zelda franchise may wonder if Link will have speaking lines in the film, as is customary in the beloved games.

According to an interview with Comic Book, Ball stated that he plans to incorporate dialogue choices in the movie adaptation of Zelda. He also mentioned that, like in the game, Link will communicate with villagers through dialogue boxes instead of having a voice.

Despite being non-committal, this response is consistent with Ball’s previous statements about Zelda in other interviews. As the project is still in its early stages, there are limitations on what he can disclose.

As an example, in an interview with Polygon, he stated that the movie will most likely not be entirely motion-captured. Instead, he hopes to make it more realistic and relatable, saying, “We’re putting in a lot of effort and we’re determined to create something amazing. I’m sure Nintendo will intervene at some point and pull me away.”

Be reassured, Ball’s dedication to creating a film that will be adored by fans is unwavering (as evidenced by his initial tweet in 2010 about his desire to direct a Zelda adaptation). He previously expressed his desire for it to resemble a “live-action Studio Ghibli”production.

Derek Connolly, known for writing the script for Jurassic World and the abandoned Star Wars film, Duel of the Fates, is said to be working on the screenplay. There have been no announcements regarding casting for the project, despite false AI images suggesting that Tom Holland may play the character of Link.

Although, in the meantime, you can still read about what we desire to see in the Legend of Zelda movie.
