Leviathan: Upcoming Anime Adaptation for 2025

On Thursday, June 7, 2024, Netflix revealed plans to adapt Scott Westerfeld’s eponymous novel series, Leviathan, into an anime production. The streaming giant announced that the series will be exclusively available on their platform worldwide in 2025. Qubic Pictures and Orange Studios have been chosen to oversee the show’s production.

In addition to revealing this information, Netflix also announced the names of the key team members, such as the director and those responsible for the music. Furthermore, a special video has been released by Netflix, offering fans a glimpse of the anime.

Upcoming release: Leviathan Anime (2025)

The Netflix anime’s official X (previously known as Twitter) account posted a visual on June 7, 2024, revealing that the highly anticipated Leviathan anime is currently in production. The announcement stated that the series will be released exclusively on Netflix worldwide in 2025.

Despite this, the streaming platform has not yet announced a specific date of release. It is worth mentioning that the promotional image showcases the main protagonists, a runaway prince and a disguised girl.

The animation project is a collaboration between Studio Qubic Pictures and Orange. Fans may be familiar with Orange, the CGI studio known for producing popular titles such as Beastars and Trigun Stampede. Furthermore, Netflix has revealed the details of the anime’s main staff.

Christophe Ferreira expressed his excitement for being part of the Leviathan anime franchise as he makes his directorial debut. In a statement shared on his official X account, he shared his enthusiasm for this opportunity.

The director expressed his gratitude to Netflix and the rest of the staff for allowing him to be a part of the series. The series’ producers include Christophe Ferreira, Justin Leach, and Taiki Sakurai, with original songs by Joe Hisaishi.

As of now, the music department of the anime has also welcomed Nobuko Toda and Kazuma Jinnouchi. Despite this exciting news, the cast for the anime has yet to be announced. Nonetheless, fans can anticipate future updates and announcements to come.

About the Leviathan Anime

The Leviathan anime is a literary adaptation of Scott Westerfeld’s original novel series. The first book of the trilogy was published in 2009, with subsequent releases of the remaining two novels, Behemoth and Goliath, by Scott Westerfeld.

According to Netflix, this historical anime is set in 1914, just before the start of World War I. A runaway prince comes across a girl disguised as a boy, riding a bioengineered airship called the Leviathan.

Surprisingly, a special video titled Next On Netflix Animation: The Preview for 2024 and Beyond was streamed by Netflix, featuring a brief glimpse of the titular series at the 47-second mark for fans to enjoy.
