The King Is Watching has proven to be captivating, consuming more of my time than I anticipated. The game stands out for its polished gameplay and engaging entertainment value. However, it currently lacks essential quality-of-life features, which I hope will be incorporated in future updates.
One notable limitation is the absence of an option to reset your progress directly in the game. To do this, players on PC need to manually navigate to the save file location.
The Save File Location for The King Is Watching
| Client | Save File Location |
|---|---|
| Steam | C:\Users\[Windows Username]\AppData\Local\The_king_is_watching_steam\Release |
Within the “Release”folder, various data files are stored, capturing distinct aspects of your in-game progress, including challenges and general save information. Additionally, any screenshots you’ve captured during gameplay will also be available here. For convenience, it’s advisable to make a copy of the entire “The_king_is_watching_steam” directory for easier file management.
You can easily access this folder by pasting the following path into Windows Explorer or the Windows Run dialog:
%USERPROFILE%/AppData/Local/The_king_is_watching_steam
How to Reset Your Progress in The King Is Watching
Due to the lack of an in-game reset option, the most effective way to reset your progress involves deleting the save files. However, before doing this, it is crucial to disable Steam Cloud support to prevent overwriting local saves.
- Open your Steam library and find The King Is Watching.
- Right-click on the game and select Properties. Then, under the General tab, you need to uncheck Steam Cloud.

- Navigate to your save file location:
C:\Users\[Windows Username]\AppData\Local\The_king_is_watching_steam\Release
- Consider backing up the entire main folder for safety.
- After backing up, proceed to delete all the contents within the The_king_is_watching_steam directory.
- Launch the game again; your progress will reset as if it’s your first time playing. Play briefly to create new save files.
- Close the game and return to the Steam settings to re-enable Steam Cloud.
- Upon relaunching The King Is Watching, you will encounter a save conflict message.
- Select your local data to ensure that it updates the Steam Cloud with your new profile information.

That’s all it takes to reset your progress! It would be beneficial if the developers considered introducing a reset option or the capability to create multiple profiles, a feature often found in roguelikes but oddly absent here.
On a positive note, the developers have indicated that midgame saving functionality will be implemented soon, and I look forward to additional quality-of-life enhancements as well.
