The elusive Golden Fish resides in specific water pools found within caverns, with a prime location in the Windward Plains. To start your quest, navigate to Area 14, known as the Groundwater Vein. Here, you will need to explore the larger pool situated on the left side, where you can successfully find and catch the Golden Fish.

While the Groundwater Vein is your earliest opportunity to capture a Golden Fish, it is not the only spot. If you don’t have luck in this pool, consider resetting the resources by resting at a nearby camp. Additionally, Area 8 in the Scarlet Forest is noted for its underground caves where you can also discover this shimmering fish.

Catching the Golden Fish in Monster Hunter Wilds

To successfully catch a Golden Fish, you will need to employ the Golden Bughead bait with your Fishing Rod. Equip your Fishing Rod from your item pouch and select the bait. Use the LB/L1 button on your controller to choose the Golden Bughead, an effective lure for shiny and vibrant fish. Once you’ve set the bait, cast your rod into the water.

To entice the fish, wiggle the bait in the water. There are various techniques for this action, but a quick reeling motion tends to yield the best results. When you feel a bite, promptly hold the button to reel in your catch. You’ll have multiple attempts until the pool is depleted of fish; if necessary, you can refresh the area or switch to another pool. With patience and the right bait, you will eventually land a Golden Fish.

Visually, the Golden Fish is characterized by its elongated, curved body adorned with a striking gold hue and notable blue eyes. Be careful not to confuse it with the smaller Koi fish that you might also encounter.

After successfully catching the Golden Fish, return to the fishing NPC at your base camp, where you’ll receive rewards including Hunter Rank XP, Guild Points, and various other items. This accomplishment will also enable you to pursue further fishing quests, as there are other rare fish species waiting to be captured.
