The Lord of the Rings Anime Film Confirmed with Several Details
On Tuesday, June 11, the Annecy Animation Festival announced that the highly anticipated Lord of the Rings anime film will be a reality. The film will feature the collaboration of Peter Jackson and director Kenji Kamiyama, who is best known for his work on the Ghost in the Shell anime franchise and as a background artist for the iconic film Akira. As of now, the film is set to release in North America on December 13 and internationally on December 11.
The upcoming film, Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, is set 200 years before the events of The Hobbit and centers around the daughter of Helm Hammerhand, Hèra, as she faces off against the formidable Dunlending lord, Wulf. A preview was shown at the festival, teasing Wulf’s animosity towards the council and foreshadowing the upcoming battle that Hèra will have to confront.
What to expect from this production
According to Kamiyama, the upcoming anime adaptation of Lord of the Rings boasts a “very powerful story.”The festival organizers expressed their desire to capture the unique approach to animation of Kamiyama, rather than simply copying the style of the Peter Jackson films. This sentiment was shared by Andy Serkis, who played the iconic character of Gollum in the Jackson films and will be reprising the role in the upcoming movie, Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.
At present, there is limited information available about the film, but it is highly probable that this will change in the upcoming weeks as Warner and those involved release further details about the project.
