Lords of the Fallen: Best builds for all playstyles

Just like the Dark Souls series, Lords of the Fallen is a Soulslike game that honors the finest aspects of the genre. As with any game in this category, there are numerous potent builds to cater to different playstyles. Here are a few of the standout builds in Lords of the Fallen.

If you are familiar with Soulslike games, you are probably aware of the common build types that revolve around traditional RPG archetypes such as Warrior, Rogue, Wizard, and others. These typically consist of Strength, Dexterity, and Magic builds, or a mix of two. Lords of the Fallen follows this same pattern, with its top builds resembling playstyles found in other Soulslike games like Dark Souls, Lies of P, or the original LotF from 2014.

In the following section, we will discuss the most effective builds we have encountered so far in the game, with a particular focus on Strength, Dexterity, and Magic. This ensures that we cover all three main styles of play in Lords of the Fallen. These styles are referred to as Strength, Agility, and Radiance/Inferno in the game, similar to the spell casting systems seen in Elden Ring and other Souls games.

It is important to note that certain builds may overlap with other styles – as the top builds in games of this nature typically incorporate various skills and abilities rather than relying on just one.

Lords of the Fallen builds can be tailored by each player.

Best Builds in Lords of the Fallen

For our builds, our main focus will be on the necessary gear and preferred stats. We will not provide specific recommendations on how many points to allocate to each stat, as this allows for flexibility in personalizing each build. Additionally, it is up to you to decide how high you want to level up your character.

Optimal Strength Build

The Dark Crusader build is widely considered the most powerful Strength build in Lords of the Fallen. This build is already quite strong from the beginning of the game and is particularly advantageous for players who have the Deluxe Edition. However, players who only have the standard version can still create a similar build by starting the game with a Hallowed Knight character and easily catch up in strength.

As you progress, it is important to continue developing your Strength, Endurance, and Vitality in order to maintain your strength and protection during combat. This will also allow you to effectively use heavy armor and weapons without being hindered by their weight. We advise disregarding the Agility stat as it is not necessary for the weapons you will be using. Instead, concentrate on mastering two-handed weapons or utilizing a strong weapon in one hand and a shield in the other.

Although it is important to focus on building strength, it is crucial not to neglect magic like many first-time Strength build users do. Having a secondary offensive style and a few spells at your disposal will prove to be beneficial. While your main role will be that of a tank, we recommend choosing either the Radiance or Inferno stat (but not both) and leveling it enough to have access to basic spells when needed. In order to use the overpowered two-handed fire sword in this build, we recommend prioritizing the leveling of Inferno.

In addition to aiding in boss fights by taking advantage of enemy weaknesses, having ranged attacks at your disposal can also be beneficial. It is important to always find a purpose for your mana, even if you have a melee-focused build. As for equipment, we suggest considering the following options for armor, weapons, and jewelry:

  • Weapon: Sword of Skin and Tooth
  • Shield: None (Two-hand weapon)
  • Armor: Paladin’s Armor Set (Upgrade to your choice in endgame, based on weight & defense needs)
  • Pendant: Warrior’s Claw
  • Rings: Adyrqamar (Extra damage with two-handed weapons), Mineowner’s Ring (Increases stamina and stamina regen)

Lords of the Fallen also features some powerful Rogue/Dexterity-based builds.

Optimal Agility Build

Agility builds are similar to Dexterity builds in Lords of the Fallen, as they rely on speed, skill, and finesse to deal damage with smaller weapons. This playstyle also grants them the ability to use bows, execute combos, and inflict status effects like Bleed and Poison on their opponents.

There is a variety of starting classes available in that game, each catering to different Agility builds. However, based on our recommendation, we believe the Blackfeather Ranger class is the most suitable. This initial character boasts well-balanced stats but is particularly suited for Agility. Additionally, it offers a wide selection of weapons to choose from.

In this build, focus on improving Agility and Vitality, and disregard Strength. Only level up Endurance as needed to maintain agility and speed, as this build does not require the use of heavy weapons or armor.

Just like the Strength build, it is recommended to prioritize leveling up either Radiance or Inferno, but choose one and focus on reaching a level where you can efficiently cast spells when necessary. However, as this build is better suited for using bows, you may not require as many points in these magic stats compared to the previous build.

In terms of choosing the appropriate gear, we suggest searching for the following:

  • Weapon: Assassin’s Bow/ Both Bringer of Stillness shortswords
  • Armor: Blackfeather armor set (Upgrade to another if you need more protection later and can spare the weight)
  • Pendant: Pendant of Induration (Increases defense)
  • Rings: Grayson’s Ring (More damage when dual-wielding weapons), Mineowner’s Ring (Boosts stamina & stamina regen)

Lords of the Fallen features two types of magic, Radiance and Inferno.

Optimal Wizard Build

For the ultimate Wizard build in Lords of the Fallen, we will focus on the Inferno school of magic and create a powerful Pyromancer known as a Pyric Cultist. Therefore, we recommend choosing this class at the start of the game.

This build focuses on utilizing the Inferno stat to deal burn damage to enemies from a distance. It is important to also improve Vitality and Endurance in order to balance our defensive capabilities and avoid being too vulnerable. As followers of the flame, disregard the Radiance stat completely.

If you prefer to engage in close combat and play as a battlemage, then it may be beneficial to focus on leveling either Strength or Agility, depending on your weapon preference when not using fire attacks against Rhogar. This decision is ultimately yours, but we personally chose to prioritize Strength over Agility, as we found it more enjoyable to use weapons with added fire damage. In a way, this build can be seen as the inverse of our initial build.

This is the infernal gear that you should locate and equip:

  • Weapon: Pyric Cultist’s Staff (With Judge Cleric’s Corrupted Sword for melee if you choose to be a Battlemage)
  • Armor: Pyric Cultist Robes (Later Damarose’s Set)
  • Pendant: Pendant of Infernal Oblation (Burned enemies receive more damage from you)
  • Rings: Adyr’s Mark Ring (Increases Inferno stat), Ring of Infernal Devotion (Causes burn buildup and ignite buildup)
