Francine, the beloved calico cat who captured hearts with her charming antics at a Lowe’s store in Richmond, Virginia, has officially returned home after going missing in late September.
For the past eight years, Francine has been a familiar face at the Lowe’s location on West Broad Street, where she has become an integral part of the shopping experience for both customers and employees. Her unexpected disappearance in late September created a wave of concern among fans and patrons, prompting a concerted effort to locate her.
According to staff, Francine inadvertently hopped onto a delivery truck, which took her to the Lowe’s distribution center located in Garysburg, North Carolina, approximately 85 miles away from her home store. The public reaction to her vanishing was overwhelming, leading a dedicated group of volunteers to travel to Garysburg in hopes of bringing her back.
Employees and local animal rescue organizations remained vigilant, collaborating to find a way to safely bring Francine home.
Lowe’s management, however, specified that only the Northampton County Animal Control agency would be permitted on their premises to assist in her rescue, expressing confidence in their abilities to handle the situation.
The SPCA became involved, with local groups distributing flyers and offering a generous $2, 000 reward for anyone who could facilitate Francine’s return. Additionally, Lowe’s utilized advanced technology, including thermal drones, to search the expansive distribution center for any sign of her.
Francine’s Reunion: A Heartwarming Return
On October 4, 2025, the search efforts finally bore fruit when Francine was spotted on security cameras at the facility. The following day, a team from the Richmond Lowe’s took a 90-minute drive to the distribution center, armed with cat traps baited with her favorite treats in hopes of enticing her.
Footage from the cameras revealed Francine cautiously investigating one of the traps in the parking lot. Ultimately, she was successfully captured, and on October 6, employees Wayne Schneider and Mike Sida joyfully brought her back to her familiar surroundings.

With great relief and joy, the Lowe’s team successfully reunited with Francine, celebrating her safe return to her home store.
“She looked at us, and gave this big meow like, ‘What took you so long?’” Schneider recalled with a smile.
Sida mirrored this sentiment, stating, “From the beginning, we were determined to bring Francine home. She’s part of our identity here… It’s indescribable how we felt when we realized it was really her. We were all elated.”
Lowe’s publicly thanked the animal rescue organizations involved in the recovery effort in an official statement, calling Francine’s return “not just a feel-good moment, but a true representation of community and love in action.”
This touching story isn’t the only heartwarming reunion making waves recently; on October 1, a woman from California was joyously reunited with her dog, who had gone missing since July, after he was discovered over 2, 000 miles away in Illinois.
