It has been reported that Apple is preparing to release an update to its Mac Mini line, and the new device is speculated to be the company’s ‘smallest computer’ yet.
As September 2024 approaches, Apple’s annual fall event will be happening before we know it.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the Cupertino company plans to release the smallest desktop computer yet, as well as introducing the M4 to its MacBook line in late 2024. This will coincide with the release of the iPhone 16 lineup and new versions of the Apple Watch.
Based on his report, the M4 and M4 Pro processors are expected to be added to the Mac Mini “later this year,”and this will be the first significant overhaul of the device since 2010.
Gurman’s sources have revealed that Apple’s new Mac Mini will be its “smallest desktop computer yet”, as reported by Gurman.
According to him, the device will have a significantly smaller size compared to its previous version, and will be similar in size to an Apple TV set-top box.
The report also mentions that Apple has experimented with different models, including one with three USB-C ports and an HDMI port, indicating a potential removal of the ethernet and USB-A ports currently available on the back of the device.
Just as with the current M2 Mac Mini, the revised version will come in both a base M4 and an M4 Pro, with the latter being released a few weeks after the base model.
Apple plans to introduce the M4 processor to its iMac desktop and MacBook Pro by the end of 2024, in addition to the recently released Mac Mini. The MacBook Air is expected to receive the M4 in Spring 2025, followed by updates for the Mac Pro and Mac Studio just a few months later.
As part of its Apple Intelligence initiative, the company initially launched its M4 chip on May 7, 2024, through the iPad Pro OLED.
