A shocking incident occurred in Brazil when a Chinese businessman, identified only as Zhang, narrowly escaped death thanks to his MacBook Pro. During a gunpoint robbery, the laptop absorbed a bullet, which could have proven fatal.

The events unfolded on October 1, as Zhang was wrapping up his work at an event in Sao Paulo. He had summoned a taxi to get to the airport for his flight back to China. While waiting outside for the taxi, Zhang stepped away momentarily to enjoy some fresh air—a seemingly innocuous decision that almost turned deadly.

As he strolled towards a nearby gas station engaged in a phone call with a client, a black vehicle suddenly approached. From it emerged a masked assailant wielding a firearm. The robber swiftly snatched Zhang’s backpack, which contained crucial items such as his passport, wallet, laptop, and important files, before making a hasty escape.

Describing the harrowing experience, Zhang said, “My backpack had important documents as well as my laptop, so I turned around and fled.” At that moment, the assailant fired two shots. Zhang, initially unaware, assumed the gunfire was merely a ruse.

Law enforcement officials informed Zhang that armed robberies are frequent occurrences in Brazil and warned him that the likelihood of recovering his stolen belongings was quite low.
