A remarkable achievement in the world of unusual records has been made by a Vietnamese artist, Lưu Công Huyền, who has officially secured a spot in the Guinness World Records for possessing the longest fingernails. After dedicating over three decades to growing them, his nails now surpass the length of a giraffe’s neck.
Huyền’s fingernails measure an astounding total of 594.45 cm (19 ft 6 in), making him the record holder for the longest fingernails on male hands. This incredible feat was documented earlier this year in Nam Định province, Vietnam, by Craig Glenday, the Editor-in-Chief of Guinness World Records.
The Detailed Measurement Process
The intricate process of measurement involved carefully laying a string along the contours of each nail before comparing the lengths to a measuring tape. The final record was determined through an average of two separate measurements: his left hand totaled 388.85 cm, while his right hand measured 205.6 cm. Notably, his longest fingernail, located on his left thumb, reaches an impressive 127.5 cm (4 ft 2 in).
Initially inspired by his father’s legacy as a shaman, Huyền allowed his nails to flourish. Although he did not pursue shamanism himself, he expressed that the thought of cutting his nails now left him feeling “uncomfortable and exhausted, both mentally and physically.”
In spite of the inherent challenges, Huyền continues to thrive in his career as a painter, using his extraordinary nails to create intricate artwork often splashed with vibrant colors. He remains cautious while working, dressing, or riding his moped to prevent any potential damage to his nails.
Supportive of his unconventional passion, Huyền’s wife, Thi Thuan, assists with everyday tasks, embracing his decision to keep his nails long, despite facing questions on why she doesn’t advise him to trim them.
Expressing his joy, Huyền shared that being recognized for his unique achievement brings him immense happiness. His name now graces the pages of the Guinness World Records 2026 edition, joining a lineage of spiritual and artistic individuals who have set records with their fingernails.
This incredible accomplishment adds yet another interesting record to the Guinness World Records. On September 25, skateboarder Sandro Dias captured attention by setting new records for the highest drop in and the fastest speed on a skateboard, having skated down a building in Brazil.
