Marathon’s Simple Maps Result in Over 50% Player Deaths

Bungie has unveiled some intriguing statistics from the Marathon Server Slam, highlighting the game’s challenging survival dynamics ahead of its official launch. Notably, the exfiltration success rates across the trial maps were surprisingly low.

In a social media announcement, the development team disclosed that even on Perimeter, the introductory map designed to ease players into the game, the exfiltration success rate stood at a mere 42%.This statistic implies that even in the game’s most accessible area, less than half of the participants succeeded in escaping alive.

The situation was even grimmer for players attempting to navigate Dire Marsh, the second map included in the testing phase. Here, only 35.6% of Runners managed to exfiltrate successfully, indicating that almost two-thirds of attempts culminated in failure.

Marathon’s Challenging Survival Rates & Upcoming Difficulty

What stands out in these findings is that they are based on Marathon’s two most straightforward maps. Fans have yet to experience the newly introduced maps, Outpost and Cryo Archive, which are unlocked further along in the game.

Considering their later unlock status, it’s reasonable to infer that these maps will present even steeper challenges for players.

Previewing the Outpost map, developers have labeled it a “meatgrinder”teeming with UESC enemies and characterized by narrow corridors, encouraging close-quarters engagement. This description strongly suggests that players will face intense combat scenarios.

The fourth map, Cryo Archive, is anticipated to unlock once the player community achieves specific milestones concerning orbit access. Although details remain scarce, it is expected to house significant endgame loot, implying that players should be prepared for tough competition.

While there’s potential for improvement in these survival statistics as players become more adept in Marathon, expectations should remain grounded. As the game launches on March 5, players should brace themselves for a formidable challenge.
