Players of Marvel Rivals are still being caught off guard by an iconic trick involving Doctor Strange, leaving many in the gaming community astonished that this tactic is still effective.
In Marvel Rivals, gamers have discovered numerous creative applications of Doctor Strange’s portal mechanic. One particularly clever strategy entails placing a portal strategically to dazzle opponents with sunlight, while another tactic involves launching enemies off the map for an effortless knockout.
As players continue to experiment with innovative methods to enhance Doctor Strange’s combat prowess, many are unexpectedly reverting to these classic techniques. Remarkably, this reliance on established strategies seems to be yielding successful outcomes, with entire teams inadvertently walking into apparent traps.
The Enduring Appeal of Doctor Strange’s Classic Tactics
A recent post on the Marvel Rivals subreddit highlighted this phenomenon. A player shared a video illustrating their entire team falling victim to what they dubbed “the oldest trick in the game.”Just before the match commenced, the opposing Doctor Strange placed a portal directly above their team’s spawn door.
As the door opened, a portal became instantly visible, yet only one player appeared to recognize the impending danger. The rest of the team charged through the portal, leading to five easy eliminations for their adversaries just seconds after the game began.

In the comments section, one user nostalgically referenced their first encounter with the game, stating, “The first clip I ever saw of this game was of a Strange spawn team wipe about a year ago.” Another commenter shared their empathy, writing, “When this happens, you know it’s going to be a long gaming sesh lol.”
Meanwhile, a third player expressed bewilderment about how anyone could fail to notice the visible portal.“Sometimes I feel like this has to be done on purpose. You can clearly see through the portal. How can you not tell it’s gonna kill you?” commented another gamer.
Interestingly, several users acknowledged that they sometimes jump into portals for entertainment. However, it remains unclear whether the original poster’s entire squad surrendered their chances for an easy team wipe for the sake of fun.
