Marvel takes legal action against popular scoop account

Marvel Studios has requested a subpoena from Instagram in order to reveal the identity of a well-known account that frequently shares leaked news and clips related to Marvel movies.

The account CanWeGetSomeToast has gained notoriety for sharing details about upcoming Marvel projects before their official release, including plot information, casting updates, and leaked images and videos. Recently, the account shared previously unseen footage from the upcoming film, Captain America: Brave New World, on their Instagram story.

It is evident that Disney and Marvel have taken notice of this matter, as they are currently searching for the individual responsible for the leak. According to them, this person is accountable for the “unauthorized sharing of a copyrighted image on or around April 30.”

The company has requested a subpoena for Instagram to disclose the identity of the individual responsible for the account. According to documents shared by TorrentFreak, this legal action is accompanied by a statement from Marvel’s Vice President of Global Security and Content Protection, Matthew Slatoff.

The subpoena, as stated in the declaration, is intended to identify the individual or individuals who go by the username @canwegetsometoast and allegedly posted a copyrighted image from the upcoming Marvel Studios film, Captain America: Brave New World, without proper authorization.

If the subpoena is granted, Marvel will be able to obtain the account owner’s name, physical address, IP address, telephone number, email address, and payment account details from Instagram. As of the current writing, the subpoena, which was filed on May 7, has yet to be approved by a court clerk.

Even though CanWeGetSomeToast is not the sole “scoop”account that shares information about Marvel movies on the internet, the recent crackdown on this specific account after the release of the Captain America: Brave New World clip might indicate a significant change at Marvel.

This week, the studio declared its intentions to decrease the amount of content being released in order to focus on rebuilding. Along with their Instagram decision, this could imply that Marvel is striving to bring back an element of surprise in their upcoming projects.
