Marvel’s Best Comic-Con Headline

The buzz surrounding Robert Downey Jr.’s return in his new villainous role has been dominating conversations, but surprisingly, Marvel’s most exciting news from SDCC actually came from The Fantastic Four panel.

Marvel’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con caused a stir in Hall H as they announced updates on the Avengers franchise, Captain America 4, and Robert Downey Jr.’s reprisal of his role as Doctor Doom in the MCU. Notably, there were also exciting reveals during the Fantastic Four segment.

It was announced that composer Michael Giacchino would be scoring the new movie about Marvel’s first family.

During the panel, Giacchino’s music was played alongside the news, and the audience was given a sneak peek of the movie’s “retrofuture”aesthetic.

Despite being overshadowed by other major announcements from the studio, Giacchino’s involvement in The Fantastic Four: First Steps hints at the potential for it to be the most exciting upcoming Marvel film.

His extensive experience scoring superhero movies includes a film with a similar style to Pixar’s The Incredibles, complete with a superhero family and a retro-futuristic aesthetic.

Additionally, he has also written music for popular productions such as Lost, Ratatouille, Star Trek, Up, and Mission: Impossible. One of his most notable works includes composing for Matt Reeves’ The Batman, set to be released in 2022.

With a list of accolades including an Oscar, Emmy, and three Grammy Awards, Giacchino is widely recognized as one of the most gifted composers in the industry. It is no surprise that fans are eagerly hoping for him to score the upcoming Fantastic Four film, given his renowned work on the iconic music of The Incredibles.

One Twitter/X user welcomed back The Incredibles by noting that Michael Giacchino was composing music for the movie, which is set in the 1960s and follows a family with superpowers.
