Despite solidifying her position as one of the iconic “final girls”in Ti West’s X trilogy, Mia Goth is already aware of which horror classic she would love to star in – though her choice may not please everyone.
Since the start of West’s horror movie trilogy in 2022, Goth has been occupied with portraying both Maxine Minx and Pearl. However, she has her sights set on a different project – Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining from 1980, which she considers to be her dream role.
When asked which classic horror film she would love to star in, she responded [via BuzzFeed], “The Shining. That would be incredible.”While she did not specify, it is safe to assume that Goth was considering the role of Wendy, originally played by Shelley Duvall in the Stephen King adaptation.
The opportunity to appear in one of the most iconic horror films of all time is highly coveted by any scream queen. As expected, her response has sparked a variety of reactions among fans, with some advocating for a remake while others are appalled by the idea.
“Until now, I have never been interested in a remake,”stated one X user. Another individual chimed in, saying, “I understand the vision and think a remake is necessary.”
“According to a third, no one else could perform as well in this role as Shelley did.”
One user on Reddit suggested that Mia Goth would be a perfect choice for the role of Wendy in a potential remake of The Shining. They stated that the film should focus on faithfully adapting the book, similar to the approach taken in the TV series adaptation.
Despite the potential of Goth to add to a Shining remake, some were quick to criticize the idea.
“I have a great appreciation for Mia, but I sincerely hope no one considers the possibility of a Shining remake. A truly flawless film does not require a remake,”stated one comment on Twitter.
“Another person expressed frustration at the continued suggestion of a Shelley Duvall biopic or a straightforward remake, as well as the idea of gender-swapping Jack or making Wendy the unstable character. They stated, “It’s disheartening to see these ideas brought up again.”
“A Reddit user expressed their concern by saying, “I hope Hollywood doesn’t come up with any more ridiculous ideas like remaking this beloved timeless classic.”
Despite its popularity, The Shining did not receive positive reviews upon its initial release. Duvall’s performance was heavily criticized and she was even nominated for a Razzie Award for Worst Actress.
Despite receiving a nomination, Duvall’s performance was ultimately rescinded in 2022. Nevertheless, it is still widely regarded as one of the greatest performances of all time.
