The Blu-ray release of Fantastic Four: First Steps has unveiled exciting deleted scenes, bringing additional Mole-Man action to the forefront. This film has established itself as Marvel’s top performer of the year, achieving an impressive box office gross of $519 million, significantly surpassing the earnings of Thunderbolts ($382 million) and Captain America: Brave New World ($415 million).
Fans can anticipate the return of Marvel’s iconic First Family in future projects, including Avengers: Doomsday set for 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled for 2027. However, if you’re eager for Fantastic Four content sooner, the movie is set to debut on Blu-ray this October, packed with special features, including an intriguing Mole-Man scene.
Focus on the Subterranea Scene

The Blu-ray version of Fantastic Four: First Steps is scheduled for release in various formats, including 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD, on October 14. According to Entertainment Weekly, the release will feature a selection of previously cut scenes, including:
- Thanksgiving Soup Kitchen
- Fantastic Four Day
- Underground
- Birthday Sweater
- Taking Turns
Among these, the ‘Subterranea’ sequence has garnered significant attention, particularly because it showcases the domain of the Mole-Man, portrayed by the talented Paul Walter Hauser. Fans felt a lack of screen time for this character in First Steps, and this scene promises to provide a deeper look into his underground world.
This particular segment could illustrate Mole-Man’s interactions with his underground companions or detail the dynamics between the surface dwellers and those in Subterranea. Moreover, writer Eric Pearson has expressed his regret over the omitted scenes, hinting at the inclusion of a dialogue-heavy interaction between Sue Storm and the Mole-Man that was deemed too entertaining to exclude.
“There’s other scenes of Mole Man, ” Pearson told The Hollywood Reporter.“There was another scene with Sue where she goes down and talks to him about diplomacy, which was super fun and super funny.”
He noted the challenges filmmakers face in editing, stating, “Movies are a tough stew. Sometimes you’ve got a great scene, and it’s just not the right flavor for the stew.”Pearson shared an amusing vision of a scene resembling the antics of Baby Huey in Roger Rabbit, where Mole Man would joyfully explore every gadget in the Baxter Building.
Entertainment Weekly reports that the Blu-ray will also include three detailed featurettes:
- Meet The First Family: A behind-the-scenes look at how the Fantastic Four’s creation in 1961 revitalized Marvel Comics and insights into how the cast not only embodied their roles but also formed a cohesive family unit.
- Fantastic Futurism: An exploration of the retro-futuristic style that defines the film, featuring insights from Matt Shakman and crew about filming on massive mid-century sets.
- From Beyond and Below: An examination of adapting complex comic book characters for the screen, covering the portrayals of Galactus, Mole-Man, and Silver Surfer.
Mark your calendars, as Fantastic Four: First Steps will be available digitally on September 23, 2025, followed by the physical release on October 14.
