A potential reunion movie for Modern Family was recently hinted at by Sofia Vergara, one of the show’s main actors.
Despite its conclusion in 2020, many fans of Modern Family are eagerly anticipating the return of their beloved characters on television. In fact, comments made by Sofia Vergara suggest that some of the show’s fictional family members are eager to reprise their roles.
“I would do anything to be on that set,”Vergara expressed to Variety, discussing the possibility of reuniting with her TV family. “It would be such an enjoyable experience. Perhaps a TV movie?”
The actress emphasized the importance of her co-star/fake husband Ed O’Neil being able to witness their comedy family reunite one final time on camera.
“Vergara jokingly reminds him, ‘Ed, please don’t pass away because if we make a sequel, it will take a while and you’re the oldest among us. We can’t have you gone.”
Modern Family was on air for 11 seasons from 2009 to 2020. The series utilized a documentary-style approach, with a hidden camera crew following the lives of three branches of a single family.
Vergara became a member of the Delgado-Pritchett clan when she wedded the head of the family, Jay Pritchett, and fully embraced her new role as a stepmother to her son, Manny, in the process.
During its time on air, Modern Family was highly praised by critics and received a total of 22 Primetime Emmy Awards, with both individual cast members and the show as a whole being recognized.
Despite the show ending during the global shutdown, there is still hope among fans that their favorite characters will reunite in a special or TV movie.
With Vergara’s comment, the possibility of that dream becoming a reality may be closer than fans had anticipated.
