Monster Hunter Wilds is set to revolutionize a highly criticized feature from its predecessor, Monster Hunter World, and this development is monumental for players who prioritize crafting the optimal armor sets.
In an exclusive interview with IGN, Kaname Fujioka, the art director, along with Yuya Tokuda, the executive director of Wilds, unveiled the anticipated weapon adjustments as well as pivotal changes to the decoration system.
Historically, the decoration system in Monster Hunter World posed a significant challenge for players. In the 2018 release, acquiring decorations required completion of High and Master rank quests or utilizing the melding pot, which was a process laden with frustration. Decorations themselves had completely random skills attached, complicating efforts to assemble the best possible gear.
For avid Monster Hunter enthusiasts, equipping favored sets with advantageous skills is an integral part of gameplay. Skills such as Guard Up and Focus are crucial for effectiveness with weapons like the Lance and Great Sword, enhancing both usability and damage capabilities against formidable monsters. Unfortunately, the grind—spending countless hours melding and questing only to receive repetitive or irrelevant skills—detracted from the enjoyment.
Significant Overhaul to Decoration Crafting
Even the development team acknowledged their struggles with the random number generation (RNG) system in World. Fujioka expressed empathy, sharing his personal challenge with the Shield Jewel 2: “I never ended up getting it once. I finished the game without completing my build.”
However, players can expect a substantial improvement with Monster Hunter Wilds, which will allow the crafting of single-skill decorations. This pivotal change promises a more streamlined and rewarding experience.

“Decorations are currently similar to the system in World, with decorations having specific skill abilities,” explained Tokuda. “These skills are still activated by placing them into weapon or armor slots. However, you can make single-skill decorations through something like alchemy. So in [Wilds], players won’t have the issue of never being able to get a specific skill.”
This overhaul is game-changing for the Monster Hunter community, eliminating the need to rely on unpredictable RNG when focusing on constructing ideal armor sets.
