The highly anticipated anime adaptation of Monsters, from One Piece author Eiichiro Oda, finally has an official release date. We explain everything you need to know.
One Piece was not Eiichiro Oda’s first manga. The author has in fact published a series of other creations, all one-shots (read: shorter stories). Later compiled in a volume entitled Wanted!, these five additional stories are more or less linked to the universe of Luffy and other pirates.
And among these, there is Monsters: we follow the adventures of a legendary samurai from the country of Wano, Ryuma. This hero actually lived 400 years before the appearance of the Straw Hats or the treasure hunt initiated by Gol D Roger. The one-shot has been adapted, and is about to hit our screens in anime format.
Obviously, anticipation is high for what promises to be a spin-off of one of the best-known series in Japanese pop culture. Especially since there is a solid team behind Monsters! The adaptation is directed by Sunghoo Park, the director of season 1 of Jujutsu Kaisen and who founded the studio E&H Production. The author is renowned for his attention to detail, especially after his work on Jujutsu Kaisen.
Monsters finally has a specific release date for January 2024, but there is a problem!
The Monsters anime has been announced for January 21, 2024 on Netflix… at least for the countries concerned !

“ALERT: The Monsters anime is scheduled to air on January 21 on Netflix / Source: @NetflixBrasil”
Because in France, anime belongs to ADN. If the simulcast site has not yet formalized the date at the time of writing this article, it should not deviate from the broadcasting of Netflix in other countries: this would be taking the risk of losing viewers.
On the other hand, the announcement of the date raises another problem which could dishearten more than one person. According to Twitter user Pewpiece, the anime adaptation would not in fact be a series, but an OAV, or a special 25-minute episode.
See you on January 21 to discover the only episode of Monsters… And for those who haven’t had enough, there is always our listof anime not to be missed at the start of the 2024 winter season.
