In 2024, Magic: The Gathering’s Secret Lair series will continue its trend of surprising fans with unexpected crossovers, with the announcement of several sets featuring Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
This two-part Secret Lair release includes a selection of reprints that will surely delight MTG players, as it features beloved moments, quotes, and characters from the Python classic.
Despite being a surprise, this announcement regarding MTG is not entirely unprecedented. The previous release of The Princess Bride Secret Lair demonstrated that, in addition to the current pop-culture collaborations in Universes Beyond, Wizards is open to catering to their long-standing audience with traditional fantasy and comedic collections.
This sure-fire sellout Secret Lair includes all of the available cards. Each of these cards is a reprint of an existing MTG card, with new art that fully immerses them into the world of the film.

African Swallow and European Swallow: Birds of Paradise
Birds of Paradise, considered as one of Magic’s top Creatures for producing mana, is a valuable addition to any multi-mana deck with a green component. It enables players to gain an advantage over their opponents by accelerating their mana pool right from the beginning of the game.
Bring Out Your Dead (Buried Alive)
Although primarily used in reanimator decks, Bring Out Your Dead is a crucial combo component for any strategy that relies on recursion. This black-mana option allows you to fill your graveyard with your desired cards, effectively functioning as a multi-target Tutor in a variety of black decks.
Tim the Enchanter (Prodigal Sorcerer)
An affordable blue sorcerer that can be be activated to deal one damage to any target. This card can serve as a dependable source of minor damage or removal of tokens, but truly shines in decks such as Alaundo the Seer where untapping cards is crucial for its effectiveness.

Although green mana already has access to most of the game’s top land ramp options, this card stands out by enabling the land it searches for to enter the battlefield untapped. This feature allows for consecutive plays within the same turn, which can shift the game’s momentum in your favor.

Castle of Aaargh (Dark Depths)
This land instills fear in its opponents as soon as it is played onto the field. In casual formats such as Commander, destroying lands is often looked down upon, making this card even more valuable as it can remain on the field until it unleashes the mighty Marit Lage, leading you to victory.
Sir Bedivere’s Scales (Ashnod’s Altar)
This card can greatly benefit sacrifice decks by converting tokens into colorless mana, allowing them to accumulate a significant amount of additional resources and easily make more plays.
The Black Beast of Aaargh (Marit Lage Token)
The formidable creature is a cause for fear within its castle. If all the tokens are taken out of Castle of Aaargh, this Creature will completely overpower its enemies and significantly reduce their remaining life points.
The Bridge of Death (Door to Nothingness)
This card is notorious for its punishing effects and ridiculously high mana cost. However, if a player is able to successfully fix their mana and pay for WUBRG twice, this card can become a game-ending and comically powerful play, truly living up to its name as a Python.
The Monty Python Secret Lair will be available for purchase on July 29th.
