MW2 H2M is back despite Activision shutting down developers

Despite Activision’s decision to permanently shut down the latest Call of Duty mod, H2M, players have managed to find a way to access the game.

H2M is a mod for Call of Duty that is integrated into Modern Warfare Remastered and features more than 50 multiplayer maps from various Call of Duty games.

Shortly before the mod was scheduled to launch, Activision issued a cease and desist letter to the development team, resulting in the permanent shutdown of operations. The decision received heavy criticism from players, although some users have managed to find a means of accessing the game.

During Zelta’s CoD livestream on Twitch, developer Alastor from H2M expressed his appreciation for people being able to try out their work in some way. However, he noted that the day-one version and post-launch content will not be available to the public.

Alastor confirmed that the development team had anticipated a concurrent player base of 10,000 or more on the original launch day, but expressed disappointment that they will not be able to see the project through.

Zelta provided a guide for downloading the necessary files to access the servers, which can be helpful for other players.

CharlieIntel reported that Steam is now allowing customers to request refunds for their purchase of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered if they have played for less than two hours this week.

Nevertheless, there is a group within the Call of Duty community who remains optimistic about their ability to persuade Activision to reconsider their decision.

The CEO of FaZe, Banks, pleaded with Activision to reconsider their decision and stated, “This is simply harmless fun and promotes community building, which is something that Call of Duty greatly benefits from. We urge you to do the right thing and allow these kids to continue playing their game.”

Despite numerous pleas, Activision has yet to provide a response regarding the decision. However, H2M is not the only fan-made project to face this outcome.

In May 2023, CoD mod Sm2 was shut down by a cease-and-desist letter, and during that same month, X Labs, which hosted Black Ops 3 servers, was also forced to shut down by Activision.
