MW3 Esports World Cup: Viewing Guide, Tournament Format, Prize Pool, Participating Teams

The Call of Duty Championships traditionally signals the conclusion of a CDL season, but for 2024, a new final tournament has been introduced. The Esports World Cup will see 11 CDL teams and four Challengers teams vying for the largest portion of a $1.8 million prize pool.

In a historic victory, OpTic Texas claimed their first CoD Championship since 2017. Despite the New York Subliners’ bid for a second consecutive title, OpTic emerged triumphant with the support of their hometown Dallas fans.

Despite their notable presence, Atlanta FaZe did not manage to secure a top four finish, while Toronto once again fell short on the grand stage. With many teams seeking to end their season on a positive note, the Esports World Cup presents the ideal opportunity for redemption.

In addition, some CDL teams that were unable to qualify for the CoD Championship have made changes to their rosters in preparation for this tournament. Furthermore, four Challengers teams comprised of former CDL players are eager to make a comeback and make a statement. Without further ado, let’s take a look at what fans can anticipate.

Explanation and Format of the MW3 Esports World Cup

The Modern Warfare 3 tournament in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, known as the Esports World Cup, will kick off on Aug. 15 and end on Aug. 18. A total of 11 CDL teams have confirmed their participation, alongside the top four Challengers teams from the Challengers Finals.

The Team Falcons was chosen as the 16th and final team after the Los Angeles Guerillas declined their invitation, making them the only CDL team to do so.

The top two teams from each of the four groups will progress to the quarterfinals. Each series will consist of five games, and the ultimate final will consist of seven games. The maps and rules will follow the official CDL ruleset.
