After chapter 419 of the My Hero Academia manga was released, the future of Tenko Shimura, also known as Tomura Shigaraki, appeared grim. As All For One took over his mind and body, Shigaraki seemed to disappear into a dark void, currently without any chance of coming back.
Despite this, it is important for fans to not give up hope for Shigaraki. There may still be a chance for him to be redeemed, especially with the help of his faithful companion, Kurogiri.
Dr. Kyudai Garaki crafted Kurogiri using the remains of Oboro Shirakumo, a former U.A. High student who tragically lost his life while on a mission. Kurogiri’s primary directive was to safeguard and support Tomura Shigaraki, a responsibility that may come to fruition in future installments of the My Hero Academia manga.
This article includes spoilers for the My Hero Academia manga.
The Redemption of Kurogiri: How He Could Become the Savior of Tomura Shigaraki
Before being captured, Kurogiri played a crucial role as a member of the League of Villains. He was specifically designed by Dr. Kyudai Garaki to serve and safeguard Tomura Shigaraki under the command of All For One. Even while imprisoned, Kurogiri maintained his loyalty to his master, as evidenced by his declaration in My Hero Academia chapter 373 that he will always be the protector of Shigaraki.
Despite Kurogiri’s commendable loyalty, Shigaraki’s current situation appears grim, especially since All For One emerged and claimed control of his body, causing Shigaraki to seemingly vanish from existence.
Despite this, it has not been officially confirmed at this time whether Shigaraki is truly gone, giving some hope for his potential survival.
Yet, it should be acknowledged that Deku was able to remove the hatred from Shigaraki’s heart before All For One appeared and took over his body.
After taking control of Shigaraki’s body, All For One confirmed that all of the latter’s hatred had disappeared, along with his Decay Quirk.
Considering the severity of the current circumstances facing Shigaraki and the Heroes in the manga, it seems like the ideal moment for Kurogiri to make his appearance and carry out his duty of safeguarding his master.
In the recently released spoilers for My Hero Academia chapter 420, it was revealed that Shota Aizawa and Hizashi Yamada were able to tap into a small fragment of their late comrade’s persona within Kurogiri. This led to Kurogiri agreeing to work with them in recruiting other Heroes to confront All For One.
Despite their efforts, it is currently uncertain if Aizawa and Yamada were able to fully reconnect with their former friend. It is possible that even though a part of Shirakumo remains within Kurogiri, he may still retain a sense of duty towards his master, Tomura Shigaraki.
Since he has started working alongside the Heroes, Kurogiri may venture onto the battlefield himself to fulfill his duty and rescue Shigaraki.
With Deku successfully saving Shigaraki’s soul, there is a possibility that Kurogiri could be saved from All For One’s grasp. The outcome of this remains uncertain and will be revealed in the upcoming chapters of the My Hero Academia manga.
