The release of My Hero Academia chapter 424 officially signaled the conclusion of the Final War arc, which spanned nearly one hundred chapters. This finale not only wrapped up the journeys of All For One and Tomura Shigaraki, but it also resulted in the loss of the One For All Quirk.
Without a doubt, Deku was heartbroken to give up the Quirk bestowed upon him by All Might. To him, One For All was a precious gift from his childhood idol. As a result, voluntarily relinquishing it not only rendered Deku almost powerless, but also filled him with a profound sense of grief.
Despite My Hero Academia chapter 424 subtly hinting at One For All still being alive inside Deku, there is a chance that the Quirk has not completely disappeared from his body.
My Hero Academia Chapter 424 Hints at Deku Still Possessing a Quirk
During his fight against Tomura Shigaraki, Deku made the conscious decision to relinquish his One For All Quirk to him. By doing this, he allowed the vestiges to attack Shigaraki from within, effectively stopping his violent rampage and eradicating the deep-seated hatred within his heart. However, this came at a great cost to Deku, as he was left nearly powerless after the transfer.
Despite using the remaining embers of One For All to defeat All For One, Deku was believed to have lost the last trace of his Quirk. However, it was revealed in My Hero Academia chapter 424 that while Deku can still sense remnants of the Quirk within him, it is expected that he will eventually lose them and become completely Quirkless, following in the footsteps of All Might.
Despite this, Deku stated that he no longer minds being Quirkless. He reasoned that he was born without a Quirk and willingly gave away One For All. In fact, he expressed his happiness at being able to fulfill his dream of becoming the greatest hero in the world.
In chapter 424 of My Hero Academia, Deku’s words were interpreted by many as a clear indication of One For All’s demise, especially considering the Quirk’s purpose was no longer necessary after All For One’s defeat. Nevertheless, as Deku was shown to be resuming his high school routine at the conclusion of the chapter, it is plausible to speculate that he may still retain a Quirk by the conclusion of the series.
Based on his statement about feeling the embers of One For All within him, it can be inferred that he retains a portion of the Quirk, potentially even more than All Might did after the Kamino Incident. This is supported by the fact that All Might did not describe his state after his confrontation with All For One in the same manner as Deku.
It is possible that One For All may have died, but it is also likely that the embers within Deku are remnants of the Quirk that was once part of the larger All For One Quirk. Alternatively, it could be a brand new Quirk formed by the fusion of One For All and All For One, potentially transferred to Deku by Shigaraki during their collaboration to defeat All For One.
Yoichi Shigaraki’s words in My Hero Academia chapter 423, where he stated that Deku was determined to fully master the One For All Quirk, would take on a whole new significance if a new Quirk were to be formed from the merging of One For All and All For One. However, at present, Deku has only felt faint hints of this newly created Quirk within his body, suggesting that it has not yet fully manifested.
However, it is still early to make any definite statements. As My Hero Academia is now in its Epilogue, it is entirely plausible that Horikoshi may decide to bring Deku back to his origins as a Quirkless individual in a society dominated by superheroes.
Despite being recognized as one of the greatest heroes worldwide, Deku can still make a meaningful contribution to the Hero society without relying on One For All. He could follow in the footsteps of his childhood hero, All Might, and mentor the next generation of heroes.
