My Hero Academia: The Reasoning Behind Eri Sacrificing Her Quirk for Deku, Explained

In chapter 420 of My Hero Academia, an intriguing development occurred in the plot when Eri took a risk to use her Rewind Quirk and assist Deku. Due to not being allowed to join the battle, Eri turned to Ectoplasm for assistance in breaking off her horn and giving it to Aizawa, who then used it to heal Deku.

According to numerous fans and Aizawa, Eri’s impulsive decision to sever the source of her powers could result in her permanently losing her Quirk. Although it is uncertain whether she will maintain her abilities without her horn, one thing remains clear: she is prepared to sacrifice her powers in order to continue her happy life with Deku and the rest of her U.A. High family.

My Hero Academia: The Potential Benefits of Eri Surrendering Her Powers

Despite being a member of the cast of characters in My Hero Academia, Eri is one of the few who have been burdened with a curse rather than a blessing in the form of her Quirk. While her ability to Rewind is invaluable for healing severe physical injuries, it has brought nothing but suffering throughout her existence. To be rid of it would mean a brighter future, one where she could be surrounded by friends who had aided her in overcoming her traumatic past.

Eri’s Rewind Quirk has the power to revert a living being to its previous state. Unfortunately, when she first discovered her ability, Eri unknowingly used it on her father and unintentionally erased him from existence.

As a result, Eri was abandoned by her mother and subsequently taken in by Kai Chisaki, also known as Overhaul. Under his care, she endured numerous cruel and unethical experiments aimed at creating a Quirk-Destroying Drug using her own Quirk.

Despite the challenges she faced due to her Quirk, Eri’s ability to smile was taken away and she was left with lasting trauma. However, her luck changed when she met Izuku Midoriya, also known as Deku, who risked his own life to save her from Overhaul’s grasp.

It was evident that Deku’s touch was the first and only instance of true kindness Eri had experienced in her entire life. Following her rescue from a despicable villain, Eri was welcomed into U.A. High by Deku and his companions, who embraced her as part of their family and brought a genuine smile to her face for the very first time.

After Deku went above and beyond to save her life and provide her with a sense of belonging, Eri felt a deep sense of gratitude towards him. His genuine empathy and generosity allowed her to live a happier life surrounded by her newfound friends at U.A. High.

Despite being left in a hopeless state with his arms lost in front of All For One in My Hero Academia chapter 419, Deku was determined to do whatever it takes to help her savior. Initially, Eri attempted to go out into the battlefield herself but was stopped by Ectoplasm. However, he eventually assisted her in breaking off her horn so that she could give it to Aizawa to aid Deku.

Despite Aizawa’s concern that Eri may lose her Quirk after breaking off the horn on her head, she seemed unfazed by the possibility. She expressed her desire to help Deku in any way she could and her dream of singing for him and the other students at U.A. High who had welcomed her.

Despite the challenges Eri has faced due to her Quirk, losing it could potentially provide her with the opportunity to move on from her past traumas and begin anew with Deku and her other friends at U.A. High.
