On her personal SNS account, Seo Min-jae posted about her experience with dating violence on June 16th.
Upon reminiscing about her past, she stated, “I used to have strong feelings for this individual.”She then reflected, “Their mere presence brought me immense joy. However, I later learned that even in a seemingly perfect relationship, there can be instances of violence.”
Seo Min-jae recounted being contacted by a drunk individual one day and explained the situation to me. She shared, “He sent me a text accusing me of ruining his life by sharing our negative secrets on social media. He also threatened that my family and I would never be able to hold our heads high again.”
“As she recounted the incident, she shared, “I was sent a photo by that person, a very private one that he claimed to have deleted. My heart sank.”Continuing, she revealed, “I responded to him, feigning fear, and with shaking hands, I hastily typed, ‘You don’t need to send it to me.’ He retorted, ‘Then I’ll send it elsewhere.’”
Seo Min-jae shared her heart-wrenching emotions, recounting how a dear friend of his had also experienced a similar situation and ultimately succumbed to the cruelty of hurtful remarks. This friend had even composed a song as a tribute to the girl. Seo Min-jae couldn’t believe that this friend, who was so close to the girl, could ever do something so hurtful.
“Despite being the one who exposed our drug use on social media, I still feared that he would hold a grudge against me. To mitigate this potential resentment, I drafted an agreement stating that I would not pursue any legal action based on our text messages. I also expressed my desire for us both to release our resentments towards each other and ourselves. My hope is that this person will do the same.”
Finally, Seo Min-jae addressed those who may be struggling to find the courage to speak out. They acknowledged that dating violence can happen to anyone and expressed their hope that it doesn’t happen to anyone else. Min-jae emphasized that it is a clear act of violence and urged anyone experiencing it to seek help.
In August 2022, Seo Min-jae admitted on her social media that she and Nam Tae-hyun had taken methamphetamine. As a result, both were investigated by the police and subsequently punished by the court. Seo Min-jae was sentenced to 10 months in prison and 2 years of probation in January of this year for violating the Narcotics Control Act. Although Seo Min-jae and Nam Tae-hyun were previously in a romantic relationship, they had already ended things before the incident occurred.
