This edition boasts an impressive roster of NBA teams and athletes, while retaining compatibility across various platforms. Despite its 2025 launch, NBA 2K26 remains a cross-generation title and provides players with multiple multiplayer gaming options.

However, it is important to note that previous titles in the series have experienced limitations regarding crossplay functionality. So, how does NBA 2K26 fare in this area?

Crossplay Support in NBA 2K26

NBA 2K26 introduces limited crossplay support exclusively for PS5 and Xbox Series S|X players. Unfortunately, this means that gamers using PC, Xbox One, PS4, or Nintendo Switch will not be able to join in on this feature.

The decision to limit crossplay is disappointing, especially for PC gamers who, despite paying the same price, are restricted to their platform. However, players on Xbox Series S|X and PS5 can look forward to enjoying crossplay in online tournaments and co-op matches.

Cross-Progression Capabilities

NBA 2K26 does incorporate cross-progression, but only within the same console family. This enables players to transfer their progress between different PlayStation or Xbox consoles; however, cross-progression across these two families is not available. Players can take advantage of features such as MyTEAM cross-progression and a shared VC wallet within the game.

This setup is somewhat restrictive, as it seems unlikely that many users will play the game across both PS4 and PS5. Additionally, the PC version continues to lag behind, lacking essential features that many expect from a modern AAA title, especially one that includes multiplayer modes.

However, this benefit is only available with the digital version; purchasing a physical copy restricts you to the specific console for which it was bought.
