The highly anticipated release of the Sakamoto Days anime will no longer be available on Netflix, as the streaming platform has removed it from their list of upcoming projects for 2024.
Sakamoto Days, the beloved shonen manga created by Yuto Suzuki, remains one of the most popular titles on Shueisha’s Manga Plus app. Since its debut in 2020, the manga has been running successfully for four years and currently has a total of 166 chapters.
After four years since its release, it was believed that Sakamoto Days would finally be receiving an anime adaptation. This speculation was initially sparked when the title was discovered in License Global’s May 2024 issue, where it was listed as one of the upcoming 2024 releases on Netflix.
This suggested that the well-received manga would be adapted into an anime that was expected to premiere on Netflix in late 2024. However, shortly after the announcement, it appears that License Global has removed the highly anticipated anime from Netflix’s list of upcoming releases for 2024, as Sakomoto Days is no longer listed on the page.
The abrupt removal of the anime from the streaming platform has caused confusion, as it is uncertain if the show will be permanently unavailable on Netflix or if it has been postponed for release in the future.
TMS Entertainment has been reported to be the studio responsible for the Sakamoto Days anime. According to the reports, the studio will continue its involvement in the project, despite the decision to no longer release the anime on Netflix.
Despite much speculation, there has been no confirmation from Netflix or any other production element regarding the potential Sakamoto Days anime. The author and studio have yet to release any statement regarding the rumored adaptation, leaving its future uncertain.
Although there has been no official confirmation about this project, fans are anticipating that the anime may have been postponed until 2025. According to a comment by an X user, they are hoping that the announcement and promotion for the anime will take place this year for a release in 2025.
Another individual expressed disbelief, stating, “I can’t believe it’s really 2024. With the show’s immense popularity, there’s no way there wouldn’t be any announcements or advertisements this close to the release year. But then again, it is Netflix.”
There is speculation that the anime being revealed by TOHO Animation on May 22 could be Sakamoto Days. In a tweet, one user expressed their desire for this to be true, stating “Sakamoto Days please,”alongside a quote from the announcement of the upcoming release.
Despite lacking official confirmation, there remains uncertainty surrounding the possibility of an anime adaptation for Sakamoto Days. However, some speculate that the announcement for the anime may come in the upcoming Chapter 167 of the manga, set to be released on May 26, 2024. Stay tuned for updates.
