The XM4 has long been regarded as the premier weapon in Warzone, but after experiencing a second nerf in rapid succession, a surprising contender has emerged. An Assault Rifle with an exceptional time-to-kill (TTK) is set to claim the throne in the game’s competitive meta.

With the commencement of Warzone Season 2, significant changes have been introduced to the game’s landscape. This includes numerous buffs and nerfs to existing firearms, alongside the introduction of new options such as the Cypher 091 and Feng 82.

However, the XM4 continued to showcase its dominance, maintaining its formidable standing throughout much of Season 1. In response to its persistent effectiveness, developers enacted a substantial nerf on January 31, thereby reshaping the meta after weeks of stability.

This recent adjustment leaves players contemplating the best long-range alternatives going forward. Fortunately, an often-overlooked Assault Rifle, the Goblin Mk2, now stands out as a formidable choice, boasting a TTK that surpasses all others in its class.

The Goblin Mk2: A Game-Changer with Unmatched TTK

Warzone analyst WhosImmortal showcased the Goblin Mk2 in a video on February 2, illustrating its stats compared to other high-performance long-range weapons. The findings decisively highlighted the Goblin as the top performer when placed against rivals like the AK-74, XM4, and AS Val.

Remarkably, the Goblin Mk2 can eliminate targets in approximately 650 milliseconds at distances up to 40 meters—nearly 100 milliseconds faster than its nearest rival, the AS Val. Its superiority continues at longer ranges as well, with only the AK-74 managing to keep pace up to 70 meters before the Goblin reclaims its lead.

“This thing absolutely melts, ” commented WhosImmortal during his analysis.“In certain gunfights, it feels like the other player had no chance because the TTK is just that fast.”

In his video, WhosImmortal also provided a recommended build to maximize the Goblin Mk2’s impressive capabilities:

  • Optic: Wilus 3X
  • Muzzle: Suppressor
  • Barrel: Reinforced Barrel
  • Magazine: Extended Mag II
  • Fire Mod: Rapid Fire

While this setup offers a significant advantage over competing meta weapons on paper, it is worth noting a small drawback: the Goblin operates with a semi-automatic fire rate. This necessitates precise shooting skills and a quick trigger finger to achieve its optimal TTK.

This characteristic indeed raises the skill ceiling, as the margin for error is slim; missed shots can lead to dire consequences, particularly in high-stakes encounters where a spray-and-pray approach isn’t viable. Yet, with practice and consistent accuracy, players can effectively leverage the Goblin’s strengths.

For added versatility in combat, pairing the Goblin Mk2 with a submachine gun is advisable to handle close-quarters engagements. The Jackal PDW remains a top-tier pick in Season 2, and the newly introduced PPSh-41 boasts an extraordinary fire rate ideal for quickly dispatching adversaries in tight spots.
