New Show Announced for 35th Anniversary of Classic Anime

According to reports, the popular anime Ranma 1/2 is set to make a comeback with a remake of Rumiko Takahashi’s manga currently in the works.

Debuting in 1989, Ranma 1/2 remains a well-loved anime series that combines martial arts and romance, with a unique twist of gender-bending. The main protagonist is a martial artist striving to become a champion, but their plans are disrupted when they gain the ability to switch between male and female forms after being doused with water at specific temperatures.

The manga by Rumiko was published from 1987 to 1996, while the sports anime had a shorter run from April 1989 to September 1992. According to Sugio Lite, a well-known source for anime and manga news, a new adaptation is currently in the works.

On June 21, Sugio tweeted that an official announcement would be coming soon, referencing the initial reveal on June 15. If this turns out to be true, it will coincide with the 35th anniversary of Ranma 1/2’s premiere, hinting at possible celebrations for the franchise.

The fans are eagerly anticipating the event. “I’m so excited to see it!”exclaims one fan. “We’ll be seated and ready to go,”adds another.

Rumiko’s vast repertoire includes highly acclaimed works such as Ranma 1/2, Inuyasha, and Urusei Yatsura. These titles have received modern adaptations, with Inuyasha being brought to the screen in the 2000s and Urusei Yatsura receiving two adaptations, in 1981 and 2022.

For quite some time, Ranma has been distinguished among Rumiko’s works as a series that could benefit from a modern update. There have been rumors that Studio MAPPA is currently working on a new version, although no specific details have been disclosed yet. However, there is a strong confirmation that it is indeed in the works.

We will definitely keep you updated on an upcoming anime that we are eagerly anticipating.
