As the final episodes of Yellowstone draw near, the first official teaser for Part 2 provides a glimpse into a world without John Dutton.
For viewers of the Taylor Sheridan series, the second half of Yellowstone Season 5 may bring mixed emotions. While we will have the chance to return to the Dutton Ranch, the absence of Kevin Costner (aka: JD) will be felt.
Although it remains a mystery as to how he will be written out of the grand finale, the initial glimpse provides some unsettling hints that he may have departed to the heavenly Train Station.
The preview, shared on the official Yellowstone X/Twitter account, remains cryptic. It features glimpses of the ranch entrance, barns adorned with the recognizable brand, a white horse, and a mysterious figure entering the Dutton family house.

According to all indications, the looming presence could be attributed to either Rip or Kayce, suggesting that one of them may have a significant role after John’s departure. The trailer hints at the possibility of death, particularly with the image of John’s solitary hat hanging on a rack.
John wears multiple cowboy hats throughout the show, but his most memorable one is his brown hat, which can be seen hanging without anyone wearing it.
Additionally, the presence of the white horse may serve as a foreshadowing of John Dutton’s off-screen death in the upcoming episodes of Yellowstone. This alludes to the passage in Revelation 6:8, which states: “And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat upon him was Death.”
It has been speculated by fans that Sheridan would use an unexpected death to write Costner out of the show. However, this has only been a theory until now. The recent release of these particular images and the lack of focus on any one character further suggests that John may have met his unfortunate demise when the show resumes.
The teaser is a promising sign that a full-length trailer may be released soon. Even though Season 5 Part 2 is currently being produced, the show is scheduled to premiere on November 10, 2024. This suggests that the marketing campaign will soon ramp up.
Keeping this in mind, anticipate additional teasers and hints that foreshadow what will happen in the remaining episodes!
In addition, you can also explore the most startling fatalities in Yellowstone. (Who knows, perhaps John will make an appearance on the list before Part 2 concludes!)
