Enhancing Personalization with New Themes in Windows 11
Windows 11 offers an exciting variety of over 400 curated themes, including 35 brand new collections that empower users to express their unique style. This feature enhances the user experience by allowing simple customization with just a click of the new paintbrush icon located on the left-side panel.
Historical Context of Themes in Windows
The concept of personalizing desktop backgrounds through themes is not a recent development; it dates back to Windows 95 with the introduction of the “Microsoft Plus!” package. In Windows 11, the framework continues to use the legacy “deskthemepacks” from the Windows 8 era but is integrated within a modern MSIX package.
Improved Organization in the Microsoft Store
Previously, the Microsoft Store hosted a vast selection of themes but lacked effective organization. Users often struggled to find what they were looking for due to the cluttered interface. Microsoft has recognized this issue and taken steps to enhance user experience by introducing a new “Themes”department within the Store. This section now allows users to easily discover curated and trending themes for quick customization.
“We are beginning to roll out a new Themes department in the Microsoft Store on Windows, where visitors can quickly find curated and trending themes to customize their Windows devices with a single click, ” said Giorgio Sardo, Vice President of the Microsoft Store, in the official announcement.
According to Sardo, users have expressed a desire for their PCs to reflect their individual tastes. Whether you’re a gamer eager to showcase the latest titles, a fan of beloved characters, a designer in search of inspiring backgrounds, or simply looking to refresh your workspace, the new themes aim to meet varied preferences.
Accessing Themes and Automatic Wallpaper Changes
The freshly rolled-out themes can be accessed from the paintbrush icon on the left pane. However, it’s important to note that this feature is being released gradually, meaning some users may need to wait longer than others to gain access.
Featured Theme Collections
For those who prefer a constantly changing desktop, Windows Spotlight is an excellent alternative. This feature automatically updates your desktop wallpaper daily, ensuring you experience a fresh and vibrant background throughout the year.
