Despite leaving the series, Kevin Costner has still been featured in the first glimpse of Yellowstone’s potential final season.
The recently released teaser for Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 prominently showcases Kevin Costner, who had previously departed the show amidst a highly publicized disagreement to focus on his own western film, the negatively received Horizon: An American Saga.
To advertise the upcoming season while retaining its most prominent character, the trailer utilizes scenes of Kevin Costner as John Dutton from as far back as Season 2 of Yellowstone.
“Legacy. If you create something valuable, there will always be someone who wants to claim it for themselves.”Dutton’s words could be seen as a foreshadowing of recent rumors that Yellowstone may carry on even after his departure.
The upcoming continuation will feature the return of Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler and Kelly Reilly as Beth Dutton, both of whom are shown in the short trailer released by Paramount.
Additionally, there is a clip of Wes Bentley portraying Jamie Dutton, desperately attempting to dispose of paperwork as he anticipates an impending FBI raid.
Despite the lack of a funeral or a grand farewell in the trailer, the manner in which Costner’s character, John Dutton, will be written out of the show remains a mystery. Sources have revealed that Costner was not present on set during the filming of Season 5 Part 2.
The actor personally announced on June 20 through a social media post that he would not be able to continue his role on Yellowstone.
During a discussion about Yellowstone, Costner expressed how the experience had a profound impact on him. “I absolutely loved it,”he shared. “I know you did too. I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for the wonderful relationship we’ve built and let you know that I won’t be coming back. But I look forward to seeing you on the big screen.”
The second half of Yellowstone Season 5 will premiere on November 10, 2024. While it is rumored to be the final season, there is a possibility of a Season 6 being announced. However, the franchise will not end there as new shows such as The Madison, starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Matthew Fox, will continue the Yellowstone universe.
