Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree will bring forth a plethora of weapons and weapon types. As such, here is a comprehensive overview of the fresh weapon categories and additional content included in the DLC.
FromSoftware has confirmed that Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdree will be their largest expansion to date, making it a massive DLC. Players can anticipate a vast open world, numerous new bosses, and a diverse selection of weapons in this highly anticipated release.
The base game already featured a wide variety of weapons, including Greatswords and Axes, and this selection is further expanded in Shadow of the Erdtree. As such, here are the additional weapon types players can expect to see in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdree.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree – New Weapon Types
The upcoming game Elden Ring will introduce eight additional weapon classes, including the following:
- Great Katana
- Light Greatswords
- Hand-to-Hand
- Throwing Weapons
- Thrusting Shields
- Reverse-hand Swords
- Perfume Bottles
- Beast Claws
From the pre-release gameplay footage of Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, we can gather insights into the nature of these weapon types.
Light Greatswords
Light Greatswords offer a balance between traditional Greatswords and Straightswords, providing both the agility of the latter and a comparable level of damage to the former.
Light Greatswords come with movesets quicker than regular Greatswords.
Reverse-hand Swords
Reverse-hand Swords are weapons that are held in a reverse grip and are typically used for slashing attacks. Some variations of these swords can even be wielded as twin swords when held with both hands. They are known for their fast attack combos and are highly effective in inflicting status effects on enemies.
Great Katanas
According to game director Hidetaka Miyazaki, Great Katanas can be best described as “traditional, large Japanese katanas.”As expected, they possess all the qualities one would expect from such weapons. These Katanas are notably larger than those found in the base game, and their attacks deliver a powerful blow. However, their size does come at a cost, as they are slower and lack the agility of regular Katanas such as the Uchigatana.
Throwing Weapons
Projectile Weapons refer to small axes and knives that can be held in both hands and thrown at enemies. They have a unique set of movements that enable constant attacks. The delay between each throw is minimal, allowing for continuous use.
Hand-to-Hand Combat
Ever since it was first revealed in the expansion’s trailer, there has been a lot of curiosity surrounding the new Hand-to-Hand weapon type. In Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, this weapon is known as Dryleaf Arts, named after the Dryleaf Sect, a group of spiritual seekers. It features a martial art style with rapid punches and dynamic kicks that come together in impressive combinations.
Unleash your inner Horah Loux by using the Dryleaft Arts.
Thrusting Shields
Thrusting Shields enable you to both attack and defend simultaneously. As their name implies, they are designed for thrusting attacks. However, it is uncertain how effective they will be in a real battle.
Beast Claws
The Beast Claws are two-handed melee weapons that possess a fierce attack chain, providing exceptional mobility for the wielder. The Tarnished can leap towards their enemies and deliver rapid strikes, though these weapons may not inflict significant Poise damage and leave the user open to counter-attacks. However, there is a good likelihood of triggering a status effect before any potential counter-attacks can occur.
Perfume Bottles
In Elden Ring, Perfume Bottles are used by the Perfumer enemy type as both poisons and elixirs. These weapons can be easily wielded with one hand and can also be thrown by the Tarnished to inflict status effect damage.
This is all the information we currently have on the new weapon types in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. As more details become available, we will continue to monitor and update this article.
