NewJeans: ‘How Sweet’ Music Video Age-Restriction Controversy

It has come to light that YouTube has placed an age restriction on NewJeans’s music video for “How Sweet.”

The music video for “How Sweet,”the latest single by NewJeans, has been restricted to viewers of a certain age on YouTube, the biggest platform for sharing videos globally. As a result, ADOR (NewJeans’ management company) and Google (owner of YouTube) are currently investigating the issue. Fans can still watch the music video on HYBE Labels’ official YouTube channel.

Despite being released on May 24, the “How Sweet”music video was discovered to have been age-restricted on May 27. This news has caused a significant debate among Bunnies (fans of NewJeans) as it was found that the video cannot be played when YouTube’s “Restricted Mode”is turned on.

Despite the “How Sweet”music video’s high quality, it has experienced a notably slower growth in viewership compared to NewJeans’ “Bubble Gum,”which was released on April 27. This has sparked extensive discussion among fans.

The “Bubble Gum”music video reached over ten million views within 24 hours of its release, while the “How Sweet”music video had accumulated 7.6 million views within three days after its release.

Despite its success on domestic music platforms such as Melon, where it reached number two on the charts, the lower number of views on YouTube led to speculation on social media as to why this release was not gaining traction at a faster rate.

Despite the ongoing conflicts between ADOR’s CEO Min Hee Jin and HYBE, some netizens have still placed the blame on HYBE. Unverified rumors on social media are circulating that HYBE intentionally set an age restriction on the music video to limit its reach.

Despite rumors circulating, HYBE has firmly refuted them, declaring, “We do not impose age restrictions when uploading our music videos on YouTube. It is solely YouTube’s discretion to classify content as age-restricted according to their own criteria.”Furthermore, HYBE has launched an investigation into the situation and has reached out to YouTube’s headquarters for clarification on the guidelines that resulted in the age restriction. Currently, they are still awaiting a response.

Speculation has arisen among fans that the presence of a Coca-Cola bottle in the “How Sweet”music video may have caused YouTube’s algorithm to mistakenly flag the video as an advertisement, resulting in restrictions being applied. According to reports, Google is currently investigating the technical aspects of this matter.

The music video for “How Sweet”presents a captivating tale of the NewJeans members facing a car malfunction, with visually stunning shots and the members’ flawless choreography.
