Nioh 3 PC Camera Stutter Fix: Workaround Solutions

KOEI TECMO has unveiled an extensive demo for Nioh 3, allowing players to delve into a substantial part of its expansive open world. This version boasts improved technical performance compared to Rise of the Ronin, although some issues persist.

If you’re encountering camera stuttering despite achieving high frame rates in Nioh 3, we’ve compiled effective solutions to address this concern.

Nioh 3 Camera Stutter Solution

Similar to other titles utilizing the Katana Engine, Nioh 3 experiences camera movement problems that can result in frame pacing irregularities and stutters, even when frame rates are high. This issue is challenging to visualize in frame pacing graphs but is evident when playing. Notably, it persists even with technologies such as G-Sync or FreeSync enabled. Fortunately, testing has revealed a temporary workaround for this dilemma.

Locking the frame rate at either 60 or 120 FPS effectively eliminates camera stutter, creating a smoother gaming experience. Since Nioh 3 does not support an uncapped frame rate, it’s essential to set the game to 60 or 120 FPS in the in-game settings found within the Visuals section.

Despite my system achieving frame rates between 80 and 90 FPS, I opted to cap it at 60 FPS for a smoother experience, avoiding the stutters I encountered at higher frame rates. By maintaining this 60 FPS lock, I can also utilize DLAA, which enhances image quality and fluidity, making gameplay more enjoyable.

Alternatively, if you prefer the 120 FPS lock, ensure your system can maintain that frame rate consistently. Adjusting graphic settings, applying aggressive upscaling, or incorporating frame generation may be necessary. Given the game’s CPU demands, I recommend the 60 FPS lock as a more manageable solution.

It is hoped that Team Ninja takes note of this camera stutter issue and addresses it ahead of the official launch. Aside from this particular concern, Nioh 3 offers robust performance, compatibility with modern upscaling technologies, and extensive customization options to enhance player experience.
