Utilizing Overdrive is undoubtedly the most effective strategy to regain lost ground in Screamer. This feature grants an extended boost, ensuring that any opponents you collide with are knocked out, allowing for rapid acceleration towards the front of the pack.

However, successfully activating Overdrive can be quite challenging, and you may not even achieve it once in a single match. Below is a concise guide to help you unlock and engage Overdrive in Screamer.

Unlocking and Activating Overdrive in Screamer

To initiate Overdrive, you first need to completely fill your Entropy Meter. This process requires time, but it is the only moment when the “Overdrive” overlay will be visible, as illustrated in the image above. Once your Entropy Meter reaches its maximum, press L3 and R3 simultaneously to activate Overdrive.

When in Overdrive, your vehicle benefits from a continuous boost for the entire duration that the Entropy Meter remains full. Any opponent you strike while in this mode will be knocked out, provided they have not activated their shields. However, take caution: crashing into walls can lead to your own car being knocked out, making it challenging to navigate sharp turns while enjoying the relentless speed of Overdrive.

The Entropy Meter fills at a gradual pace during races. Notably, it does not increase more quickly through the use of manual perfect shifts or by maintaining high speeds in gear 6—two common techniques for enhancing your boost or Sync Meter.

As a result, activating Overdrive during a race can prove to be complicated unless you strategically conserve your resources. This requires you to hold back on using Strikes and Shields, as both consume energy from your Entropy Meter.

Interestingly, Overdrive may not be as pivotal to your success in a race if you are adept at managing Shield and Strike usage. Strikes provide a quick boost while simultaneously knocking out rivals, offering a competitive edge, especially when your boost stores are running low.

Shields also play a crucial role in your strategy. Getting knocked out can swiftly lead to lost positions. Look out for indicators, such as red flashes, that reveal when you’re being targeted by an incoming Strike or when an opponent in Overdrive is approaching. Always utilize your Shields to defend yourself, even if it drains your Entropy Meter.

Essentially, the Overdrive meter serves primarily as a catch-up mechanic, especially since you’re unlikely to use Shields and Strikes effectively when you find yourself trailing in the race.
