Osamu Dazai, a renowned literary figure, and his beloved, Sacchan, stood on the edge of a “man-eating river,”prepared to end their lives in a double suicide. However, their plans were disrupted by an unexpected truck. Following the collision, Osamu Dazai regained consciousness in a Western-style hall.
Upon realizing he has been summoned as a hero to vanquish the darkness in a world called Zauberberg, the author is filled with joy, initially thinking it to be the afterlife. Annette, an elven mage, informs him of the true purpose of his summoning.
After informing Dazai of his duties, Annette turns to see the adventurer in a state of unconsciousness from consuming too many sleeping pills. She immediately performs detoxification magic to heal him. However, Dazai confesses that he desires death above all else.
Annette quickly becomes aware that Truck-kun may have made a mistake by transporting the man into this world. Upon examining his stats, she learns that Dazai’s life is on the verge of slipping away. The elven guide urges him not to leave the safety of their surroundings.
Despite Dazai’s unrelenting desire to die, he still leaves the door in search of a place to end his life. Annette starts to understand that Osamu is not like any of the heroes she has encountered before. As he steps outside, Dazai becomes aware of a girl who is trapped by a Death tree.
Despite her desperate pleas, the literary genius insists he is unable to save her. As fate would have it, they both become entangled by the Death Tree, which starts to drain their life forces. However, the creature ultimately destroys itself after extracting the poison from Dazai.
The girl expresses her appreciation and inquires about Dazai’s identity. He reveals that he is known as Osamu Dazai, but is often referred to as “Sensei.”It dawns on Dazai that his beloved, Sacchan, may have also been brought to this unfamiliar world, as she too was struck by the truck.
Upon returning to the Church with a newfound determination, Sensei inquires with Annette about the presence of a summoned girl. However, the elven guide is unable to provide any information on the matter. In the meantime, Annette finds herself growing enamored with Sensei.
Accompanying him is Tama, the girl Sensei had rescued. Osamu Dazai’s goal is to reunite with his beloved and carry out a double suicide. Together, they embark on a journey to a nearby town known as Rott.
