According to a leak from tipster Moore’s Law is Dead, Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 5090 may be the sole next-generation GPU released in 2024.
It is speculated that Nvidia will soon release their highly anticipated RTX 50 series graphics cards. The first GPU to launch in this new lineup is expected to be the RTX 5090, with other variants such as the RTX 5080 and below to follow. The RTX 4090 is currently the most powerful desktop GPU, making the upcoming next-gen lineup from Team Green highly anticipated.
The YouTube channel “Moore’s Law is Dead”has a strong reputation for leaking information about Nvidia, accurately predicting the pricing of the RTX 40 Super series before its launch. In the most recent episode of the podcast Broken Silicon, Moore’s Law is Dead reported that sources within Nvidia anticipate the release of the RTX 5090 in 2024.
Two sources, one reportedly from within Nvidia, have suggested that the RTX 5090 is expected to be revealed at Computex and available for purchase by early Q4 of this year. According to a second source from an AIB board partner, Nvidia has not yet disclosed the specific GPUs that will be available in 2024, but at least one is expected.
Finally, a reliable OEM source reveals that the upcoming laptop lineup will utilize “GDDR7 and PCIe 5.0”. The RTX 5080 mobile die is expected to be built upon the GB203 die, but the development of the laptop die is several months behind that of the RTX 40 series mobile lineup.
With the anticipated launch of new CPUs such as Intel’s 15th Gen and AMD’s Zen 5 this year, Nvidia may be planning to release its RTX 5090 in Q4 of 2024, targeting potential new PC builders. Depending on the strength of the latest desktop chip, it may require the use of updated CPUs to prevent any potential bottlenecking issues, similar to what was observed in initial reviews of the RTX 4090 where limited CPU capabilities hindered the GPU from reaching its full potential.
Keep in mind that none of this information is confirmed, so it is important to approach leaks like this with caution until Nvidia makes an official announcement.
