The latest episode of the One Piece anime, entitled “A Beautiful Act of Treason! The Spy, Stussy!,” delved into the reasons behind Stussy’s unexpected betrayal of Lucci and Kaku during the Egghead Arc. It was a surprising turn of events, especially since the three highly skilled CP0 agents appeared to have a strong bond.
Lucci and Kaku have significantly increased their strength compared to their past selves. Through rigorous training, they have refined their Haki and even mastered their Devil Fruit abilities, reaching the rare state of Awakening. During their fight in Egghead, Lucci was able to keep up with Luffy, who has now become a powerful Emperor of the Sea, and withstand some of his powerful attacks. It is important to mention that Luffy was utilizing his formidable Gear 5 transformation.
Despite ultimately defeating Lucci, Luffy’s opponent’s abilities were still highly commendable. Therefore, it was surprising for fans to witness Stussy overpower both Lucci and Kaku. The plot thickened when it was revealed that Stussy was actually the first successful clone of MADS’ cloning experiment, No. 1 “Stussy,”a perfect replica of the former Rocks Pirate member, Miss Buckingham Stussy.

A Recap of the Events Recounted in the One Piece Anime
The World Government had assigned Lucci, Kaku, and Stussy with the mission of assassinating Dr. Vegapunk. Upon their arrival on Egghead, they were determined to engage in a battle. However, thanks to Roronoa Zoro’s timely intervention, they were prevented from destroying the Thousand Sunny. This saved the Straw Hat crew from being stranded on the island with no means of escape.
Despite Zoro’s effortless blocking of Kaku’s Sky Slicer Rankyaku, the CP0 agent resorted to using his Awakened Zoan form to attack the swordsman. However, even with this new transformation, Kaku proved to be no match for Zoro as the swordsman expertly blocked his moves and then used his raw muscular strength to slam him into the ground.
After realizing the vast difference in power, Kaku was understandably upset as Zoro easily outmatched him without using any real attacks or his serious Haki techniques. However, his distress was far from over. Just as he was getting back on his feet, something completely unexpected and even shocking occurred.
Stussy attacked Kaku from behind, rendering him unconscious. In a strange turn of events, she bit her colleague, draining his blood and energy like a vampire. As Kaku drifted into slumber, Stussy unveiled a form she had never displayed before – with bat-like characteristics including a set of wings and pointed teeth.
Stussy asserted that she had only caused Kaku to fall asleep and warned Lucci to do the same. Witnessing the events unfold, Lucci was left completely bewildered. Fueled by a mix of anger and confusion, he immediately launched an attack on Stussy without even activating his Zoan powers.
Despite his reckless attempt, she effortlessly evaded his attack. Employing an upgraded Kami-e technique, she took advantage of the opening to flank Lucci and make contact with him using her Seastone lipstick. The material, known for weakening Devil Fruit users, immediately drained Lucci of all his strength upon contact.
Despite Lucci being weakened by the Seastone, Stussy utilized her vampire-like abilities to bite him and render him unconscious. She then revealed her true loyalty as a supporter of Vegapunk by reaching out to the scientist and verifying that she had incapacitated her fellow members of CP0.
In a shocking turn of events, a narrator’s box revealed that Stussy was ranked No. 1, with a perfect resemblance to Miss Buckingham Stussy. This was because she was created by the MADS research team as a replica of the former Rocks Pirates member with the same name.
Despite being one of CP0’s top agents, Stussy had actually been a mole from the start. She had been biding her time, waiting for the right moment to betray her colleagues and carry out her true loyalty to Vegapunk, the target of their mission to eliminate.
Stussy’s Strategic Move in an Unwinnable Situation
Throughout the previous episodes, One Piece author Eiichiro Oda skillfully hinted at Stussy’s eventual betrayal. In various scenes, it was suggested that Stussy had previously visited Egghead and was aware of its secrets, yet she made a conscious effort to keep them from her colleagues.
Despite this, only the most observant One Piece fans were able to pick up on these hints. In addition, the timing and method of Stussy’s actions remained a mystery to everyone. Thus, when Stussy’s true identity and allegiance were finally unveiled, it came as a shock to One Piece fans. Needless to say, even Lucci and Kaku were taken aback by the revelation.
Despite the impressive feat of Stussy effortlessly taking them out, it is important to consider the context of this event. Stussy’s cunning abilities and unexpected betrayal were key factors in her success.
In essence, she resorted to underhanded tactics against her coworkers, knowing that she would not be able to compete otherwise. Naturally, Kaku saw Stussy as a dependable colleague and ally, and he never would have anticipated her sudden betrayal. Moreover, she launched a surprise attack on him from behind.
Despite being confused and enraged, Lucci proceeded to attack blindly, neglecting to use his Zoan abilities or his fearsome Awakened form. He charged forward thoughtlessly, leaving himself vulnerable.
These plot-driven predicaments are certainly dissimilar to a traditional one-on-one fight. In regular situations, the unique capabilities that enabled Stussy to overcome the durability of even an Awakened Zoan would not be effective.
Despite being significantly stronger than Stussy, even in his base form or lower Gears, Luffy was unable to defeat Lucci with the same ease as he did. This only reinforces the fact that Luffy is much stronger than Stussy, and it is safe to assume that even with his Gear 5 transformation, he would still surpass her strength.
Remarkably, Lucci sustained minimal damage after enduring two direct attacks from Gear 5 Luffy’s formidable techniques. It wasn’t until a third strike from Gear 5 Luffy that Lucci was wounded, and even then he was only momentarily incapacitated. Shortly after, he was completely unharmed and back on his feet.
Stussy openly acknowledged that Lucci and Kaku were both formidable opponents whom she could not defeat in a direct confrontation. She was fully aware that she stood no chance against either of them in a fair fight. Therefore, she strategized wisely.
She bided her time, eagerly anticipating the perfect opportunity to catch them off guard with her cunning abilities – namely, her vampiric power to induce slumber through biting and the Seastone item that renders Devil Fruit users unconscious upon contact.
Despite acknowledging her own weakness in comparison to her colleagues, Stussy was still able to defeat Kaku and Lucci. The events in the One Piece story only served to further solidify the fact that in a fair fight, Stussy would not have stood a chance against them.
During the events of the Egghead Arc, Lucci initially agreed to a truce with the Straw Hat Pirates. However, he later betrayed the alliance and launched an attack on Vegapunk. Despite Stussy’s attempts to defend the scientist, she was unable to fully stop Lucci’s assault. It should be noted that Lucci only used a basic Shigan attack in his base form without the use of Haki.
Despite Stussy’s best efforts, she was only able to serve as a human shield against Lucci’s most basic technique. She was unable to defend against the attack or endure it, resulting in her immediate loss of consciousness. This incident solidified the fact that, in a fair fight, Stussy would never stand a chance against Lucci and would likely not even survive, let alone emerge victorious.
